Spent the day in Alberta's mountains.

Had tea overlooking a sublime view of glaciers, the Bow Valley, and Lake Louise. It was great, after getting some altitude and above the Lake, which was absolutely PACKED with foreigners.

Parking was impossible, so even the access roads were lined with wandering non-citizens abusing Mark Carney's Canada Strong Pass. It should be called India's All-Access Pass. Local Albertans can't use their own damn park, let alone other Canadians. Parking for Canadians was $40. FOURTY. It was free for the bus loads of non-Canadians.

To make matters worse, the abuse of the natural environment was unreal. Garbage in the trees. People ripping tree branches down to use as walking sticks. People screaming into a livestream on a quiet forest trail to their family back home.

America charges foreigners to go to Yellowstone and Yosemite. I can see why.

Total disrespect for the most beautiful place on earth, and for the taxpayers that pay to keep it that way.

Earlier this month, a B.C. court decided to cancel the official go-ahead to construct a gold mine in the north of the province because a few dozen Indigenous people weren’t, in its view, adequately consulted.

It didn’t matter that the project, Seabridge Gold’s Kerr-Sulphurets-Mitchell (KSM) mine, had already undergone 15 years of planning and consultations.

It didn’t matter that $1.2 billion had already been spent on building early components of the mine like camps, roads and fish habitat.

It didn’t matter that it had the support of two major Indigenous groups, whose members would reap jobs, contracts, training and development support through benefit agreements with the company. It didn’t matter that the mine had been put on the province’s “fast-track” list, or that it was expected to bring billions of dollars in much-needed revenue.

A few years ago a South Asian family t-boned my wife at a two-way stop where they drove through the stop sign.

Her car was mangled, someone had to help her escape from the trunk.

It was 100% their fault and they almost killed her.

The Constable apologized to my wife and said she doesn't understand what's going on because they should be charged with reckless driving but the sergeant for some reason doesn't want to.

So they had a small ticket for failure to stop at a stop sign after blowing through it 30 km above the limit.

But wait it gets better....

Then they tried to sue her.

There was no concern for the person they almost killed, there was no apologies, but they didn't even blink an eye with 1 ounce of sympathy.

They just brought her closer to death than she's ever been and then tried to sue her for it.

I think about this every time I see another person killed on the highway with imported drivers who don't know or care about what they're doing.

People are astoundingly stupid. My comments about the departure tax is not that I should be treated differently from anyone else. I am making a point about the extent to which taxes are confiscatory. As I have previously explained, there was a time when ZERO cents of income tax were levied in Canada and the US. Then bit by bit, that "temporary" measure, to be applied to only a few, and at a very low percentage rate of your income, becomes a mammoth monster that takes more than 50% of your earnings. It can occur because there are no repercussions if governments do not balance their budgets (other than voting them out). Hence, what starts off as a small temporary tax on a few becomes an existential theft that is orders of magnitude larger than the so-called illegal extortion tax of the Mafia. It can exist only because the great majority of people BENEFIT from this form of parasitic taxation. But someone has to pay for everyone else, and when you are that someone, you are not necessarily pleased to be funding the ultimate Ponzi scheme. I'm making a moral, philosophical, and ethical argument. It's not just about me.
