Jimmy Stewart Fact #20:
By the eighties Jimmy had slowed down in his professional life. Here are a list of the "lasts" in his career.
- His last feature film credit was as the voice of Wylie Burp in the animated film "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West" (1991).
- His last theatrical release appearance was in "A Tale of Africa" also known as "The Green Horizon", which was released in 1980.
- His last television performance was in the mini-series "North and South: Book II".
For his role in ANATOMY OF A MURDER, Jimmy received his 5th Oscar nomination. (Can you name the others?)
Though he didn't win the Academy Award, he was named Best Actor from the NY Film Critics Circle, and received the Volpi Cup for Best Actor from Venice Film Festival.
Jimmy Stewart Fact #18:
Jimmy Stewart was a loyal alumnus of Princeton throughout his life. (His father had also graduated from the school in the class of 1898.) That loyalty was honored in 1997 when Princeton dedicated the James M. Stewart '32 Theater on campus.
Princeton University President Harold T. Shapiro said, "We are delighted to have the opportunity to honor Jimmy Stewart for all that he has accomplished in so many different arenas and to celebrate his love for this place.".
You can find a plaque near the home where he was born. You can also see his childhood home, which remains a private residence.
The Historical & Genealogical Society of Indiana county also has a museum collection and library that includes a selection of items related to Jimmy.
Directly across Philadelphia Street from the statue, a sundial marks the former location of J.M. Stewart & Sons Hardware, where Jimmy's father Alex once displayed his Academy Award statue.
