An aerial view over the Delta at sunset would have revealed its true scale & seasonal beauty. Combined with a guide deeply rooted in Botswana’s tourism & conservation history, this would have educated both the guest & viewers on how our wildlife systems truly function.

Speed’s Safari Tour took him through channels that didn’t fully showcase what our parks offer at this time of year. As someone deeply exposed to Chobe,Ngami & the Okavango Deltas,I believe we could have done better with this experience.

If the goal was to see lions,the Savuti channels would have been more appropriate.For elephants,hippos & crocodiles,the Chobe River especially around Sedudu Island,Deep in the Delta, both black & white rhinos can be found in their respective territories.

Is this Democracy? 🧵🪡

I’m grappling with putting a name or title to our type of Government. We are not a Democracy but we are a nation being ruled on what would seemingly appear to an immature eye as a Democracy.

I think we display more of a Civil rule of people than a Democratic rule. We are civilized. We embody the true idea of civility, how one could and should live with others. As Batswana, we seem to embody the true idea of Civility, the idea of a Civilzed Nation.

In my mind, we are a unique type of people, a people who remained grounded to the “home” when everyone else left to explore the world. That one assertion comes on the backdrop of the 2019 published study that “the ancestors of modern humans originated in the Makgadikgadi-Okavango region”, a publication that was quickly dwarfed by the COVID-19 outbreak. We are a people that understand how true humility works and that is exactly what speaks to us as a nation.

Civility is Botho. The act that can’t be explained out to non-Batswana/Setswana in a single word. Botho is a way of life, Botho is an expectation. We as Batswana expect to receive Botho from each other just as we know the next person is expecting to receive Botho from us. I can’t speak to Ubuntu, to Huntu, to Utu as is referred to in other “Bantu” speaking languages but I can speak deeply about Botho, as a Father of five children I have to pass this unique philosophy of an attribute that defines the moral of a person, as a Brother, an Uncle, a friend and a neighbor, a citizen of this great Country of Botswana.
