[UPDATE 1] A cold front pushing in will destabilise the hot air in place, bringing the risk of thunderstorms. Thunderstorms that do develop will bring a risk of large hail, with primary focus across parts of northern England, although the risk does cover a more extensive area.

There is also the risk of more individual, lone cells that do manage to develop in the late afternoon to be accompanied with wind gusts in excess of 50mph. Models generally suggest this setup along a southwest to northeast axis, from the north Midlands up into Yorkshire, hence a severe has been outlined. I would not discount a supercell or a tornado, albeit the risk of tornados is too low to be outlined in the outlook.

Within moderate and particularly severe areas is where multiple rounds of thunderstorms may be possible, bringing the risk of locally large rainfall totals.

While the main area of activity will be confined to northern England and east Midlands, clusters of storms may develop across far NW England and potentially across southern parts of Scotland.

Additionally, some isolated storms may be possible further south closer to Home Counties and East Anglia, with the risk primarily existing from 9pm onwards.
