I always took it as Clark's mask slipping off, revealing the ugly parts of himself that he doesn't need to mask anymore, especially in a place like the backrooms. Captain Clark eating Clark is indicative of the bad parts consuming him whole.
@bgcxx3757@niggaladdin@RedrumMack The dinner scene is his realization that he *does* hurt people, and that he *is* a bad person. Having Mary justify that and say that theres no need to change is indicative that Clark *is* that bad of a person, and always has been.
The whole reason Clark was in therapy was for-
@RedrumMack The point of the movie is getting trapped and restricted in your past, and how it often brings the worst out of others.
Thats what the Backrooms themselves, and the Still Lives, (particularly Clark) symbolize.
As for the pacing, I can agree with that definitely!
