Impartiality is the tool by which politicians, who have no interest in it, will kill off the BBC. You may miss it, when it's gone, you may not. I think the UK as a whole will be the poorer, but that requires thinking beyond the short-term.
I'm having heretical thoughts about branding. Namely:
In the real-time information age, who can live up to their brand image?
With so many touchpoints, what is really driving brand perceptions?
I keep seeing posts from life coach influencers and business thought leaders saying “it’s ok to be selfish.”
Um.
Is it?
Why does everything have to be an extreme: you’re either a doormat or a fucking arsehole. Life doesn’t actually have to be that way
@keano81 Personal brand gurus have questions to answer. Values are only valuable when they can be accepted by someone else. Current brand trends are becoming myopic and losing sight of connectivity.
Every time I do Zoom networking I'm amazed at how little thought most people put into their Zoom environment apperance, as part of their brand. Badly lit, tiny people with too wide a camera angle and an ugly background. Does them no favours!
@paulmarkbailey I just finished a naming project this week, and I reminded my client that it is far easier to find reasons to dislike a name, than to love it. The love only comes from knowing it works to achieve a wider brand proposition!
This is some of the worst copywriting I've seen in a while... "denied access to the modern slavery system" sounds the complete opposite of the intent of the words. Tsk tsk.
If you come to the UK illegally:
➡️ You can’t claim asylum
➡️ You can’t benefit from our modern slavery protections
➡️ You can’t make spurious human rights claims
➡️ You can’t stay
Curious that @GaryLineker was free to raise questions about Qatar’s human rights record - with the blessing of the bbc - over the World Cup , but cannot raise questions of human rights in this country if it involves criticism of government policy …
HUGE NEWS: @amazon is set to release an NFT MARKETPLACE platform on April 24th (in 6 weeks).
It is rumoured ~15 collections will be available on release.
This is a MASSIVE catalyst for the web3 space and for reducing friction to normies 🚀
What collections you expecting to be listed 👀?
I've taken a big swing at conventional #branding wisdom. And I'd love to know what you think.
Or at least wave to me, as you drive by that hill I'm dying on...

@david_perell This feels an over-simplification. There's "pre-1980s", which feels like what you're describing, and there's the creep of electronic entertainment passivity since, which has many forms, phones just being the latest.
How is what you're saying making people feel? I'm not sure a lot of brands know how to judge this. So I'm going to try and help. https://t.co/3mvWwUD5r1
@paulmarkbailey The ability of media individuals to hijack the dispersal of information, and where the true public interest lies, is a discussion we should continue to have.
