In this episode of #KnowYourRights, we explore the concept of freedom of expression in Pakistan, breaking down what it truly means in practice and how it applies in everyday life, particularly in the digital age. We discuss the difference between freedom of expression, constructive criticism, and statements that may be considered defamatory, and how these boundaries are often misunderstood in public discourse.

We also examine the legal framework governing expression, including key provisions under Pakistan’s cyber and media laws such as the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA), and how these laws are applied in real situations. The episode further looks at the limitations placed on free speech, what the law actually permits and restricts, and raises important questions about where the balance should lie between protecting reputations, ensuring accountability, and preserving the fundamental right to speak freely.
