Suse, I am having trouble finding a theme for the final that is specifically technological. Is it ok to write about changes due to covid in exhibition design layouts and their implications? It is something we touched on last week in class.@shineslike
Derrida is correct when he describes archivisation as a creative process. It speaks to how we, at least on an external and communicable way, view and process the world around us now. That's what I find fascinating in old records: they are a window to vintage mindsets.#MSTDtech
@MHudakMUSEums I think white is an interesting choice, given the history of modern museums and the "white cube" exhibition environment. Is the background color in an online collection a gallery wall facsimile of sorts?
I really loved the Cooper Hewitt collection... I got lost in there for a while...loved the object color scheme feature that helps hugely with reproductions, and speaks to their Design focus. Interestingly, it is provided for works with reproduction restrictions... #MSTDTech
@carolinecone30 Although there's no correct way, I think that the oppressive prevalence of social media does influence the way we encounter and digest the world around us. I am referring also to the non-participation during protests, with everyone taking photos rather than actually protesting
Coming from the Balkans, I have a question regarding inclusiveness in interpretation and labeling when it comes to National History museums. When artifacts have different meanings to different groups, what should a museum do when it exists on the premise of a single narrative?
@carolinecone30 However, this is time taken ABOUT the piece and not ON the piece. It is in my opinion a supremely extroverted way of encountering and experiencing art and artifacts. I, see the overmediation of experience as a weakening of our ability to take in the world around us.
@AnnaMuseo Special exhibitions are subject to contractual agreement in regards to visitor photography and video. For instance in the museum I worked for we hosted the "Power of Costume" a Starwars exhibition (owned by Disney) where photo and video were strictly prohibited
My question in regards to intellectual property has to do with Moral Rights. Specifically, who determines what "prejudicial distortions" are. A lot of art-by-appropriation negotiates that murky area. #shineslike
Loved this line from Ethical Issues of Digitization: "Authenticity is not an intrinsic feature of a heritage object, but it lies in the experiences that might be stimulated using heritage objects." #MSTDTech
I especially liked the two papers from 1997. Explained a lot about the need of museums to embrace the internet and digital technology in general. And this is before social media. #MSTDTech
@sunyueqi Interesting. Could be cool but I have mixed feelings about it. Most artwork have a physicality that just cannot be replicated. At least not yet...
One thing's for sure though. They can exhibit art freely in sunlit rooms! No conservation issues. Heat, humidity not an issue...
@erinblasco @SLC_Latino That's awesome! In my last museum job (MFA st. Pete) we hosted that Smithsonian exhibition, and I was lucky to experience the works up close. ππ
Check out this wonderful new museum that was designed from the get-go around total inclusivity, rather than simply adapting to ADA regulations afterwards. Sets a new standard, for me.

Hi all. This is my first tweet. Very substantive readings this first week. And the cycle of human (de)evolution continues...Revolution -> optimism/opportunity -> usurpation -> autocracy. All of these make for great art though...our museums are full of it.
Cheers #MSTDTech
