Our new work just published in Hearts: “Why and How to Measure Left Ventriculo-Arterial Coupling in Rapidly Altered Hemodynamic States.”
VAC (Ea/Ees) links ventricular contractility and arterial load, helping explain why BP, EF or CO alone often mislead in shock.
A step toward mechanism-guided haemodynamic management.

Very proud of Dinesh one of our brilliant fellows who presented a lecture at the @BSEcho congress on point of care ultrasound assessment of congestion which was highlighted in the latest issue of BSE Journal (ECHO).
Upwards and onwards! #POCUS#echofirst@RBandH@Harefield_POCUS
(1/x) In fellowship, I managed a peri-arrest patient in the middle of the night who changed my understanding and appreciation for hemodynamics, ultrasound, and TEE.
I've seen similar cases dozens of times now, yet this commonly gets missed, even at top institutions worldwide.

Exciting news! We’ve officially submitted our book today to Elsevier, and we’re thrilled to share that it’s set to be published by May 2025 (or maybe even sooner!).
This project has been a great trans-Atlantic collaboration with a leading Echo Doppler expert @argulian Mount Sinai, New York, along with the stunning illustrations by Dr. Bernard Bulwer —often called the “Netter of Echocardiography”—from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. The foreword is penned by none other than the legendary @JaeKOh2 from Mayo Clinic, Rochester.
This is the first-ever book dedicated to Echo Doppler hemodynamics in a case-based format, covering both outpatient and critical care settings.
We hope this work will assist our colleagues worldwide to manage the hemodynamics of cardiac patients right at the bedside.
Stay tuned for more updates!

Waqas is a truly remarkable man. The most hard-working person you'll meet, fiercely competent, phenomenally kind, and an unstoppable force for good for patients and colleagues.
So proud to call him a colleague and friend.
Someone please give him a job so he can use all his CCTs!
Really important step forward for the NHS. Even one case is unacceptable.
This system needs to be deployed across poor behaviours and culture in the NHS.
Especially important for resident doctors who can have their entire careers affected by speaking out.
A pleasure to contribute as a course director of the inaugural Focused Ultrasound in Situational Emergencies (FUSE) course which includes echocardiography, lung ultrasound, vascular and abdominal ultrasound assessment. Accredited by the @BSEcho and the @ICS_updates

This week I complete five years as a consultant at Harefield Hospital which fills me with a profound sense of pride and gratitude. A hospital that is world renowned for heart and lung care, on the cutting edge in advanced heart failure, cardiogenic shock, ECMO and MCS. A center which pioneered heart and lung transplantation.
Reflecting on this journey, I am humbled by the opportunity to work alongside some of the most talented and dedicated professionals in the field of cardiothoracic care. It has been a privilege to contribute to a team that consistently strives for excellence and places patient care at the heart of everything we do.
These years have been filled with challenges, learning, and countless moments of fulfillment as we’ve made a difference in the lives of our patients. The collaborative spirit and unwavering commitment to innovation at Harefield have inspired me daily, and I am honoured to be part of a legacy that continues to push the boundaries of medical science.
As I look ahead, I am excited to continue this journey of growth, to embrace new challenges, and to contribute even more to the exceptional work being done at our Harefield Hospital. Here’s to many more years of making a difference together!
