Action is needed now to reverse this trend, which is seeing more children with SEND unable to access early years education that ever before.
The Survey of Childcare and Early Years Providers (SCEYP) in April 2025 has revealed significant financial impacts on EY settings due to substantial increases in the National Minimum Wage and in Employer National Insurance Contributions, (contd)
with 22.9% making the decision to accept fewer children with additional needs in the last 12 months to offset increased costs, and 26.5% considering this in September. The statistics mirror our own research findings regarding children with SEND being turned away from settings.
