During Battle of Bull's Run, Volunteer regiments has Model 1816 Muskets, Model 1822 Muskets, Model 1835 Muskets, Model 1842 Muskets. Regular Army has Model 1855 Rifle Muskets, Model 1841 Rifles.

During outbreak of Civil War, Both Union, Confederate volunteers are issued with smoothbore muskets because nothing was much better are available. They did have rifle muskets.
