There are rumors going around that if the Indiana Fever don’t re-sign Sophie Cunningham, other teams want to try and keep her out of the WNBA, I will lose a tremendous amount of respect for the Fever and any remaining respect I have for this league.

You’re telling me you would try to silence one of the best things that has happened to your league in years? A player who brought attention, energy, personality, fans, and helped sell seats and market your league?

If that’s truly the reason, then you’re not standing for inclusion, you’re standing for censorship.

You don’t have to agree with her. You don’t even have to like what she says. But trying to punish someone because they had the courage to stand up for what they believe in is something completely different.

If the WNBA pushes away someone who helped bring so much attention to the league simply because she refuses to stay quiet, that would be cowardly. And I don’t think I would be the only person who loses respect for the league because of it.
