In late February, Pope Leo XIV thanked Father Bruno Kant of the Diocese of Fulda in Germany for his “many years of faithful and devoted priestly service.” Kant, the oldest priest in the world at 110 years of age, passed away on the night of Friday, May 29. He had been a priest since 1950.
In an article published on his dioceseʼs website, Bishop Michael Gerber of Fulda recalled that "just a few months ago" he had "the privilege of conveying Pope Leo XIVʼs blessing to Father Bruno Kant on the occasion of his 110th birthday."
"My encounter with him left a deep impression on me. Even at his advanced age, he radiated the humility, kindness, and spiritual depth that characterized his entire priestly life. The Diocese of Fulda remembers his work and service with great gratitude," he added.
Father Guido Pasanow of the parish in Eichenzell-Löschenrod, where Kant lived until his death, said that with the priest’s death, the parish “loses a person who was fundamental to it for many years.”
“Even after retiring from active ministry, he remained a confidant, pastor, and spiritual guide deeply cherished by many parishioners. We are grateful for all that he contributed to our community,” he added.
As reported by the Catholic news outlet katholisch in November 2025, Kant, born near Danzig in what is now Poland, had aspired to become a priest since the age of 9. He was able to begin his theological studies, but the Nazi regime thwarted his plans by conscripting him for forced labor and making him a soldier.
Kant spent four years as a prisoner of war in Russia before reuniting with his family, who had fled to the West.
He was finally ordained a priest in 1950. After decades of priestly service, he considerably curtailed his activities. He stopped driving at the age of 102, according to a report published on https://t.co/3VQ6nnC1tP in November.
“Over the last few years, he has refrained from celebrating holy Mass with the congregation on Wednesday evenings. However, he continued visiting the sick for as long as he was able. Now, that is no longer possible for him.”
On that occasion, Kant said: “I expect to die every day. I am not far from it.” In his final years, he spent his days solving Sudokus, watching television, reading newspapers, and, of course, praying.
“Praying keeps me young,” he said.

I recently had the blessing of visiting St. Ann Place Outreach Center, a ministry founded in 2001 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame with a beautiful mission: to care for our brothers and sisters experiencing homelessness through compassionate actions that ease suffering and uphold human dignity.
St. Ann Place continues to live out the Gospel each day by providing a clean, safe, and welcoming place where homeless women and men can receive essential services with dignity and respect, regardless of race, religion, or gender.
I am deeply grateful to John Pescosolido, Chief Executive Officer, and to the entire staff and volunteers whose dedication reflects the compassionate face of Christ to so many in need.
During my visit, I also had the joy of serving food. I quickly learned that carrying trays without spilling anything may require a few more lessons — but sharing a meal, a smile, and conversation was a beautiful reminder that small acts of kindness can speak powerfully of God’s love.
May we never grow tired of seeing Christ in the poor, the vulnerable, and all those who long to be seen, heard, and loved.

For the time being, Father Pulikal will remain also as Pastor of St. Sebastian's Parish.
I wish to express my sincere gratitude to Father Albert DelloRusso, former Chancellor, for the years of service he has generously offered to the Diocese and to the various institutions he has assisted throughout his tenure.
Father Dello Russo has been assigned to serve as Pastor of St. Paul of the Cross Parish in North Palm Beach, effective July 1, 2026. We remain grateful for his dedication, commitment, and priestly ministry among us.

The annual Pentecost tradition (today!) at Rome's Pantheon is a moment of extraordinary beauty.
It occurs every year on the seventh Sunday after Easter. At noon, after the Holy Mass, thousands of rose petals are dropped through the oculus of the mighty dome.
As the petals fall, a choir sings "Veni Sancte Spiritus," known as the Golden Sequence, a masterpiece of sacred Latin poetry.
This is to celebrate the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Virgin Mary and the Apostles.
The rose petal ritual likely dates back to 607 AD when the pagan temple became a Christian church.
On Monday, I had the great joy of celebrating the graduating Class of 2026 of @NewmanCrusaders at the @KravisCenter for the Performing Arts alongside 160 graduates. I thank God for guiding and sustaining these remarkable young men and women throughout their journey, and I encourage them to use their talents and their faith to help build a world marked by justice, compassion, peace, and service to others.
During my commencement address, I reflected on the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, and reminded our graduates that they have an important role in shaping a stronger, more compassionate, and God-centered nation for future generations.
At the conclusion of the graduation, we said the beautiful prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi, asking the Lord to make each of us an instrument of His peace, love, hope, and understanding.
Congratulations, Cardinal Newman Class of 2026! May God continue to bless and guide you always.
