CFTC Chairman Michael Selig stated today (January 20, 2026) that Congress is very close to passing major digital asset market structure legislation often referred to as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act (or CLARITY Act) or similar bipartisan bills.

In a Washington Post op-ed and related public remarks titled "America's Financial Markets are ready for a Golden Age," Selig emphasized that Congress is "on the cusp" of enacting this legislation, which would provide long-overdue clarity for digital assets (treating many like Bitcoin/Ethereum as commodities under CFTC oversight rather than securities under the SEC).

He highlighted that if/when passed, the CFTC would gain expanded authority over crypto spot markets, exchanges, and related products—positioning the U.S. as the "Crypto Capital of the World."

This aligns with his launch of the "Future-Proof" initiative: a comprehensive review to overhaul decades-old CFTC rules (originally designed for agricultural futures) that don't fit emerging tech like crypto, prediction markets, tokenization, and blockchain-based trading. He advocates for the "minimum effective dose of regulation"—clear, codified rules via notice-and-comment rulemaking instead of "regulation by enforcement."

Selig also referenced the recent formation of the Innovation Advisory Committee (replacing the old Technology Advisory Committee), which will advise on "fit-for-purpose" rules for new frontiers, including input from crypto industry figures.

Starting from 2025-09-19 at 01:00 UTC, Binance will temporarily suspend trading for APX to facilitate the token swap.

The original plan was to suspend from 2025-10-01 at 05:00 UTC.

All remaining APX will be converted to ASTER at a ratio of 1:1 for Binance Alpha users.

Trading of ASTER DEX (ASTER) is expected to resume by 08:00 UTC on the same day.
