I am dreaming about a nice cup of hot coffee at @DirtCoffee in Littleton, CO--commitment to training people with disabilities, great environment, great coffee! https://t.co/DlxKSi4mfX
The lack of representation of POC with disabilities in any realm (social media, internet, disability rights, civil rights, film, etc) is egregious. We can do better!
How to be an ally, part five: Educate yourself, then act. Consider others when voting, when shoveling your walk + when ordering that cup of coffee. Learn more at https://t.co/VJPPpTgtjc
How to be an ally, part three: Avoid sensationalizing an individual’s every day life. Someone’s disability, identity or difference alone doesn’t make them inspiring + saying so is patronizing.
How to be an ally, part two: Watch your words, they matter. Do your work, start here (attached graphic). When in doubt, ask the individual. Don’t assume.
Let’s chat about being an ally. An ally is someone who supports the cause of a marginalized group — women, POC, people with disabilities, people in the LGBTQ+ community, people with low income, etc. — + uses their privilege to learn from that group + amplify their cause.
Do you know what Harriet Tubman, Fannie Lou Hamer + Mary Davidson have in common? Not only did these women fight for civil rights, they were also disabled. Learn more at https://t.co/0DIQLbhYuo #BlackHistoryMonth
