A construction worker hasn't been paid for six weeks, due to a missing Certificate of Application. Conveniently, the company didn't ask for right to work checks when the job started, but now insists they can't pay him without one. He risks losing his home. This has to end now.
We've heard from several EU nationals who have been dismissed/rejected from employment because their #EUSS applications were pending & their employers struggled to verify their status through the cumbersome Employer Checking Service.
Thank you @maybulman for covering this👇
Employers are expected to conduct new right to work checks for EU+ nationals. But the Employer Checking Service isn’t fit for purpose.
🔴 Contradictory wording
🔴 Out-of-date information
🔴 Confusion over reference numbers

We published our #EUSS report less than a week ago. We're already hearing from more people whose lives have been put on hold by the backlog: no job, no healthcare, no news on their applications. Know someone in this situation? Get in touch https://t.co/LFRM1nglJE
Our latest #EUSS report explores:

Another email from someone stuck in the EUSS backlog, unable to get a job as employers insist on a share code. This is the 5th case like this. The deadline was less than 2 months ago. Sound familiar? Reach out: https://t.co/vEYb8HxwN5
Another day in the life. A worried man approached us. He never thought he needed EUSS, as he'd been working in the UK since 2014. What changed? Borders. For the first time, entering the UK came with a stamp🛂.This is why physical docs matter (1/2)

“My mother-in-law is helping with food. The bills aren’t being paid, I can’t drive because I only have half a tank of petrol left.” This is what happens when immigration checks are delegated to civil society.🧵 https://t.co/Dw1hd6YZu6
Some advice for #HR professionals on the new right to work checks via @hrmagazine
Please be patient with employees whose EUSS status is pending. Learning the (new) ropes is the best way to respect the law - and your team: https://t.co/PB4f4ZorNk
Useful advice on the Right to Work checks and how that affects EU/EEA citizens in UK. What employers can or should do, and what they shouldn't do. (From the London Business Hub, but relevant to all UK). @WORCrights https://t.co/VRQNgAxTpA
🚨 ECJ has issued an opinion that UK is guilty of indirect discrimination (nationality) if it refuses social assistance to EU citizens w pre-settled status.
Judgement expected in months. But this is grounds for cautious optimism. Thanks @tconnellyRTE

We've just heard from an EU citizen who is also a British national. Their company wouldn't recognise a British Passport as proof of right to work, insisting on share code. 👻
This is shocking discrimination - and an example of the senselessness created by the hostile environment.
We have updated the 'EUSS and absence' section of our #Brexit FAQs to reflect the updated guidance issued by the Home Office on 10th June. If you know someone who is struggling to understand their rights, you can direct them here: https://t.co/z4TjeYaOO7
Thanks @BigIssue for taking a critical look at the workers' rights watchdog proposed by @beisgovuk today. To our CEO Dr. Olivia Vicol, "it will have to earn workers' trust by affirming its commitment to their welfare [...] confidential reporting, and clarity on data sharing."
Thank you @maybulman@Independent for reporting the anxiety so many EU nationals are feeling as the EUSS deadline approaches. Our advisers are working flat out to support people.
