Youtube Retrospectives. Gaming old and new, the best book, comics, music, television shows and movies. Developing an alternative history of popular culture.
So, it's 2 days late, but I just managed to round out 2013 by completing Final Fantasy XIII! What a marathon, what a trial, what an ordeal! My Retrospective to end the year is now available on Youtube, please, check it out and share your thoughts on this unusual title!
Nintendo music app...
Missing just 2 critical things - both of which suck!
Ability to search by composer....
Xenoblade music...
Otherwise, great idea Nintendo, keep adding to it!
@daemonsmatt Loves your threads.
DO watch the minisode - you want a nice epilogue to what you've seen.
And then fester on all that anger and rage at what's happened and take it with you into the next episode. It'll stand you in good stead for where 'The Snowman' wants you to kick off from!
@MoonPieDreams @SharkaBytes I adore Panzer Dragoon! For a console experience - it brought 3D arcade immersive fidelity into the household like had never been done before.
....
But I can't overlook how a 'free roaming' experience is different. And Mario 64 / Tomb Raider paved all the major routes there.
If they manage ti reproduce the sass Shadow showed to Eggman in SA2, then I'm imagining the joy listening to Keanu doing the same to Jim Carrey. Sounds awesome!
@FF8_Garden I liked it as a minigame. Probably best mini game FF ever had.
I didn't like how it was woven into the fundamental game mechanics and 'broke' everything regarding progression, acquiring items, magic and levelling up.
I also didn't like how it spoiled future bosses and enemies.
AFR returns to YouTube! After some time off I'm back, and ready for a new year of gaming memories! First off, time to wrap up what was up with the Year of the JRPG. Did we learn anything along the way? (Spoiler: nothing groundbreaking)....
@badassgamezX@ChrisRussell98 Trust me. Saving when you meant to load is worse.
My original (1997) playthrough of TR2 ended when my only save file in the last 6 levels was accidentally overwritten with her falling to her death. Die, reload, fall, die, reload, fall, die...
@KubaKubsy123 @happypinkbday @CoreDesign_com Neither of which had clear endorsement or support from the owners of the Tomb Raider IP.
Both brilliant projects, some of the most professional fan works ever created in gaming - but they are not 'official' TR products.
I don't see the negative context here what IGN said.
@TheRetroP And EVERYONE wins.... - except the people who lost jobs. And the depleted teams who struggle without core talent. And the customers who get worse products.
Everyone except those people has made tonnes of money! Yay!
@TheRetroP The act of layoffs have never increased share price. But they have made the business 'appear' eligible for a savvy mega billionaire to think their getting a steal when they pump the next round of cash in for a 20% share at bargain price next year
@TheRetroP At what point does a companies goal switch from 'making great products' to 'making our investors as much money as possible'?
Embracer group definitely has jumped to the latter incredibly quickly. Unlike most it probably started there...
@TheRetroP Define 'data'... Definitely it's something that investors yearly reports use as a 'selling point' when they haven't achieved the growth they instead crow about 'efficiencies'. Its an abhorrent cycle borrowed from the tech sector - but there is evidence it makes 'profits'
@GamersWeekPC I'm very curious what this person makes of the new TR remasters!
There's a good reason Stella is a legend for an entire community of gamers.
@_claypot@stellalune So, I understand why some people are a little mirked. But yeah, this is the best way to get stuff you love - because the alternative is not to get it at all, or worse, to see it corrupted into something unrecognisable.
@_claypot@stellalune (Note... I'm absolutely not mad and dont care).
I do find it amusing that when we have a generation saying "be true to yourself, don't apologise for who you are" - people who love classic TR games start by being gaslit and told 'yeah, we think this thing you love is offensive'
Distrsught that #TombRaiderRemastered isn't available on switch until 5 pm in the UK.
It's valentines day. I've evening commitments. But I deliberately left a clear morning and afternoon that are now unfulfilled!
So no Lara until tomorrow. Thanks Nintendo ๐
@louisslegall Don't disagree. Would respectfully point out that suggestiveness fits the show she was probably most famous for at the time (2 pints of larger and a packet of crisps) which was incredibly raunchy. It ran for 9 seasons and shows the danger of being stereotyped for a 'thing'
