NEWS: DISCUS was awarded $900,000 by the @USDA American First Trade Promotion Program (AFTPP) to promote American spirits in international markets in 2026 and 2027.

We are incredibly excited to continue to work with USDA to promote U.S. spirits exports. Our export promotions are designed to equip American distillers with the tools, connections and visibility they need to deliver new U.S. spirits export sales.

In honor of #TaxDay, let's dive into some #TaxFacts about the distilled spirits industry:
Fact ✅: Spirits sector is one of the most heavily taxed industries.
Fact ✅: Distillers pay twice as much as brewers in federal excise tax.
Fact ✅: More than half of a typical spirits bottle price goes towards a tax or fee of some kind.

DISCUS is working hard to advocate for consumers and distillers to create a more level tax playing field.

The #ToastsNotTariffs Coalition submitted formal comments to the USTR warning that tariffs harm U.S. hospitality jobs, farmers and spirits exports.

To help the struggling beverage alcohol industry, securing permanent removal of tariffs on American wine and spirits must be secured.

Closing the tax disparity between spirits-based #RTDs and malt- and wine-based cocktails with similar ABV will create a level playing field and allow more spirits RTDs to enter the market, creating more choice for consumers!
