Sadly true. But that doesn’t make it acceptable — especially for airlines whose brand is built on ‘refinement’. I’m one of those people who fights, in other areas too, to make sure this kind of treatment doesn’t become the norm. Some failures deserve to be exposed. Thanks again for the exchange
Thanks, Ben. I appreciate the advice — and I understand EU261 isn’t instant. But honestly, this goes far beyond a compensation issue.
What shocked me most wasn’t the lack of money — it was how we were treated. Denied boarding without cause, spoken to like garbage, left without help while others boarded, and then completely ignored.
Etihad markets itself as a luxury airline. But when things go wrong, they treat people like disposable cargo. That’s not luxury. That’s contempt.
And I won’t stay silent about it. Thanks again for engaging.
Yes, it was on April 25. There was a delay on the BRU–AUH leg, but our connection was still valid: we reached the gate before boarding ended, and other passengers were still boarding — including people behind us in line.
We both had valid business class boarding passes, seats assigned. And yet, at the gate, we were arbitrarily denied boarding with no reason, no explanation, no rebooking, and zero compensation. Just a blunt, robotic: “No.”
No EU261 compensation offered.
No human contact.
Just silence, automated forms — and when I did request compensation, they essentially told me to get lost.
This wasn’t a timing issue.
This was a human issue — how @etihad treats passengers when their systems fail: aggression, mépris, and total impunity.
That’s why I’m speaking out.
Yes, of course. I had 2 valid boarding passes with assigned business class seats, chosen in advance.
When I presented them at the gate in Abu Dhabi, I was suddenly told I couldn’t board — no explanation, no alternative, just “no.”
Meanwhile, at least 30 other passengers were still boarding around us.
It was a BRU–AUH–MEL itinerary.
We were at the gate and it was open.
Nothing justified the refusal.
Thank you for reaching out. But I need to state this clearly:
I’m deeply shocked by what happened.
While traveling in Business Class with my 11-year-old son, Etihad denied us boarding at the gate in Abu Dhabi, with no explanation whatsoever.
All other passengers around us boarded normally.
There was no operational issue, no overbooking, no document problem.
Just an aggressive staff member in traditional attire telling me:
“If you’re not happy, it’s the same.”
We were rebooked 13 hours later — .
When we finally landed in Melbourne at 3:00 AM, our hotel was lost, our car rental canceled, and we had to spend hours waiting at the airport, with no support of any kind.
When I spoke publicly about it:
•Etihad deleted my comments
•My inbox was flooded with scam bots
•I was referred to a generic complaint form — which I refused to fill, because it’s clear no one ever reads them.
This is a blatant violation of:
•EU261 (denied boarding without cause)
•The Montreal Convention (emotional and material damage)
•Etihad’s own contract of carriage
I’ve since paid for a new return flight, because I refuse to let my son and I be treated like baggage.
Unfortunately, the only way to be seen as a human being by such companies is through collective legal action.
That’s what I’m preparing — and others are already joining.
All documentation and facts available.
While @etihad is busy playing badminton and posting selfies, here’s a real match they keep forfeiting:
Respecting passenger rights.
Denied boarding mid-journey in Business Class, with a child, no reason, no help, no compensation — a textbook EU261 violation.
Their response?
•A vague form
•Total silence
•Scam bots swarming my inbox
•And now, an army of PR posts while real victims are erased from view.
They’ll likely reply “please DM us” — spoiler: No one cares.
This isn’t service. This is a shiny distraction machine running on corporate contempt.
I’ll keep repeating this until it’s no longer ignored.

From cabin to court? Maybe try bringing that same “energy” when dealing with denied boarding of paid Business passengers — without warning or explanation.
@etihad prefers redirecting to cold, useless forms instead of addressing serious failures.
No real support, no accountability — just PR sparkle while violating basic passenger rights.
I ended up booking my own return flight. Because I refuse to trust a company that disrespects passengers and ignores human dignity.
I don’t support airlines that trample over people to protect their image.
Rights are rights — even for Etihad.
