I still have two quarters to go before I graduate! I've completed my major requirements for Envir Studies and Poli Sci. 🥳 Next, I am wrapping up my ESRM minor and taking some classes for fun. After graduation, I hope to serve with AmeriCorps. (2/2) #ENVIR492
In the final stretch of wrapping up my capstone! Looking back I am so grateful for the opportunity to gain experience, learn new skills, and network with environmental professionals. My advice to #ENVIR490 students is to befriend the people that you meet and ask questions! (1/2)
@QHabedank The pandemic has made me realize how much of a treat it is to do fieldwork. I'm so glad you got that opportunity this summer, and in something that you're passionate about. Congratulations on finishing your capstone (aside from the synthesis)! 🥳 #ENVIR492
Some key takeaways from my internship and research
1.) Stage 0 restoration works with natural processes to restore river connections to their natural floodplains, bringing back function and complexity to degraded and modified channels. #ENVIR491 (1/4)
@ElizabethZajacz I did a lot of readings on established mediums, media preferences, and cross compared that with my interview responses to see what people preferred and found my useful! I also researched exciting new mediums that could be used for environmental outreach in the future! #ENVIR492
@vanessastokel I think that there are a lot of new mediums emerging like video games and SMS messaging that can be integrated into aquatic communications! And I do think that my findings, and deliverables I didn’t discuss in my presentation, will be used to inform future outreach for the WRB!
If you can't make the capstone symposium tonight, make sure to follow the hashtag #POEcap for live updates from 4:30-7:30PM tonight! Tweet out your questions for presenters, and check out the video presentations later this week here: https://t.co/zcOX6G1KQO
@the_zinker3 One key finding is that communication should utilize solution-oriented messaging to empower audiences. However, strategies for effective outreach are not static. They require continued research and revision! Stop by breakout room #2 (Session A) to hear more! (2/2) #POECap
@the_zinker3 I identified generalized best practices in my research that can be applied broadly. These practices can be implemented into media choice and messaging strategies. They can be tailored to different environmental projects, issues, and goals. (1/2)
@wyboian An array of mediums should be used in environmental outreach. One example is social media! Posts are accessible, sharable, permit public comments, and are typically concise. You can also look at post analytics to see who your post is reaching and content interactions. #ENVIR492
@LilyAstone Spending time outside! It’s reminds me what I’m working toward, why I picked my major and the career I want after graduation. I just try to stay connected to/involved in the things I’m passionate about 💚💚
@HannahChristof3 Research the organization before you conduct the interviews if it’s with professionals so you have a sense of the background/perspective your interviewees have! Also schedule interviews as far in advance as you can so you can get more participants/have a flexible schedule.
