@heymrsbond Absolutely! It is ludicrous. I was on a visiting committee at a HS last fall. In a student panel the one complaint a student had was that sophomores were not allowed to take more than 2 AP classes! What!? Many of these are volume and not rigor. Memorization. Not learning.
@heymrsbond In Mass the community colleges are now, as of July, free for anyone who wants to go. I wonder how/if the dynamic that you describe might change for some Ss. To your larger point...that early adult age is brutal, especially for kids who have mental health or other challenges.
@MamaLoca5 @heymrsbond To be clear...I am not putting down the act of giving this to her. I understand that it is the right thing to do. My comment was a reflection of my anxiety of being in her position and doing the part of teaching I currently dislike.
@heymrsbond Mixed feelings on this one. On the one hand connecting with the familiar must be good for this former teacher. On the other...assessing is not what I want to be doing when I am in that position. 🙁
@heymrsbond I've been to a couple before. It is a hard balance between knowing what to do for yourself and what your role in the community should be. The morning my ex passed my daughter (14) was afraid to go say goodbye. I told her this was one of those moments where there is no do-over.
@heymrsbond And...in one of the hardest jobs in the world, we will never have perfection. After all he is human. Two things can be true. We can love the policies that helped and criticize the ones that killed. And still he was one of the best humans to ever hold that job.
@contradiction70 I believe. My son used the shower as self-soothing behavior. Hearing into the water running at 4 in the morning was a sign he was dissociating and it led to hospitalization. Still have a type of trauma response when I hear the water running in the house. 😐
@LittleMissLizz My two favorite places in Kraków are the Ambasada Śledzia which is perfect for lunch with various pickled herrings and vodka. And then last year we went to the Czarna Kaczka, which had this AMAZING duck szmalec (lard with duck chunks), that my wife and I dream about still.
@heymrsbond Part of this is also...what data are we interested in? If we are only looking at testing data, then we will continue to fail our kids, ad nauseum.
