It is 2026 and commentators still talk about 200 needed in 120 in an ODI like it's a "T20 chase". It is not. The rules and conditions as well as resource preservation (wickets) are way, way harder.
Its like clockwork... every explanation on cricket twitter is that someone is mediocre. When IND win, its the opposition which is mediocre. When IND do poorly, its because IND are mediocre. Its such a hopeless account of a sporting contest.
I don't know what response do these journalists expect from an opposition played while asking these questions.
What else would anyone possibly say to this?
Reporter 🗣️. In India, there's a lot of discussion about Rohit Sharma's retirement, with some reports suggesting this could be his last tour. Do you have any thoughts or memories about him?
Harry Brook: 🗣️ I don't know what's being said about Rohit Sharma's retirement. He's been a phenomenal player for many years, and it's great to see him still playing the game. I personally hope he keeps playing for India because he's one of the greatest white-ball players of all time.
Today everyone is praising the "very impressive" Gurnoor Brar. The same lot were lambasting the selectors for ignoring Auqib Nabi when he was picked. The selectors know their jobs.
Every head coach of a top team (and IND are one, despite the way they're infantlized like below) is like this. Not all of them are this way on camera.
Sports journalists are part of the entertainment. These interviews are contractually mandated content production. Not scrutiny.
IND have had better all format results than ENG in this century. This constant din from journos about how the people who decide things in Indian cricket are either incompetent or bent or both is just BS.
Okay... But what exactly is "English conditions" as far as this series is concerned? We have seen little seam movement/swing. The only point to look at is a hint** of bounce. But that is not exactly associated with English conditions. 😊
Not just related to this ranting but I am seeing the two words being used everywhere over the last one week.
Indian cricket media hates the periods when Indian cricket team is winning. They lose their relevance in those days. When the team lose, they jump in joy because now they can serve a circus which Indian fans are perennially queued up for. Neither of the two care about the game.
Narrative being built is that this is a "flat pitch" batting line-up and this has popped up because India have had four scrappy games of execution *after* winning a T20 World Cup during a cycle where they literally won everywhere! SL, AUS, SA, UAE, IND. Everywhere!!
A firehose of nonsense on sports twitter today.
1. IND are undeserving, corrupt, spoilt, careless T20 team with bad selectors, management, players
2. The Football World Cup is rigged
3. Referees are both incompetent and bent
Is it any wonder that Trump is as successful as he is?
What fans want is actually the most irrelevant thing. What matters is how the selectors and management go about things. And they have a proven track record of getting it right.
When confronted with a bit of nip/tennis-ball bounce at the MCG, Abhishek Sharma scored runs.
Slightly two-paced deck/hint of nip in Belfast - Abhishek performed.
And he did well on those slow decks in the UAE. But he is known as a flat track bully. In this format, he is a gun cricketer.
Ravi Ashwin said : “The way people are criticizing, you would think Agarkar and Gambhir know nothing about cricket. If anyone feels Nabi is marginalized, they can call it out. But to say Gurnoor Brar or his selection is a waste is wrong. Something about him would have caught the selectors' eyes, which is why they are paid the big bucks. The same goes for the coach. They live by the sword and die by it. Just like they are criticized when things go wrong, it is important to praise them now when things go right and Gurnoor Brar delivers the goods.” [Ash ki bat]
IMHO the best teams should think on these lines:
1. The best 11 should play
2. The best candidate among them should lead
Dropping a world champion captain from the squad for the next match in the same format is brutal, but it is what it is.
SKY remains a T20I legend.
I have been following Indian cricket for four decades now and am yet to see a chair of selectors who can match Ajit Agarkar in sustained ruthlessness.
You may not like him, but you have to admit that he does not hesitate to make bold decisions.
Oh please... what they're saying is "the wicket isn't easy to bat on". They're not saying its doctored to suit ENG. That's what they say routinely about wickets in Asia.
What's more, wickets in ENG have actually routinely been doctored to suit ENG.
"Rahul (Dravid) bhai and Vikram Rathour... I've said this many times. They really took care of me in a way that made me feel like I want to perform for them... as a player, you're on a very thin line between being cautious and being insecure. It's always at the back of my mind that you have to keep up to your own standards." - Virat Kohli.
How does one ace the role of a middle order finisher in ODIs and does reasonably well as an opener in Test cricket, without changing their game ‘since they were born’?
How does anyone listen to this kind of analysis? This is just blatant lying and disrespect.
