Complimented the team at @mahindrarise for this powerful Father’s Day experiment. Those featured in the film are real Mahindra associates with their fathers and children.

I couldn’t help being moved. It brought back a flood of memories of my own father. A man who never put himself at the centre of his life. Everything he did was in support of those he loved and those he called friends.

No fireworks. No grand gestures. Just the quiet constancy of being there, with seemingly limitless reserves of love and support.

To me, that was the essence of fatherhood. He was always a powerful source of motivation.

And the film also left me with a lingering regret: all the opportunities I had, and lost, to know and understand him better.

If there’s one lesson in it for me, it’s this: don’t wait. Ask the questions & have the conversations.

Get to know your parents while you still can.

FOR 15 YEARS, while most people escaped the summer heat, Harpal Singh Pali drove a tractor-tanker deep into the burning Shivalik Hills every alternate day carrying WATER for wild animals. As lakes dried and forests cracked under extreme heat, deer, wild boars, blue bulls, and peacocks began waiting for one sound — the arrival of his tractor.

Using his OWN MONEY, without donations or government support, Pali created and refilled 25 water holes across nearly 5 kilometres of forest so animals would not enter villages searching for water. Fuel prices increased. Maintenance costs rose. Still, he never stopped. He even dedicates 10% of his income to wildlife welfare.

Their names were Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta.

They were from Madhya Pradesh. They worked in Pune.

On the night of May 19 2024 they were riding a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar when a Porsche Taycan hit them at high speed. Both died.

The driver was 17 years old. His name was Vedant Agarwal. His father Vishal Agarwal is one of Pune’s wealthiest builders.

He had spent the evening at a restaurant in Koregaon Park celebrating his Class 12 board exam results.

The restaurant served the group of minors alcohol until midnight. He paid Rs 48,000 for the drinks using his grandfather’s credit card.

He was drunk when he got behind the wheel of an unregistered Porsche worth over Rs 2.4 crore.

The initial order from a juvenile court asked him to write a 300 word essay on road accidents.

The country was furious.

His father Vishal Agarwal was arrested for attempting to obstruct justice.

His grandfather and two doctors were arrested for allegedly attempting to swap the juvenile’s blood sample at a hospital to conceal evidence of alcohol consumption.

The restaurant that served alcohol to minors was investigated. Police officers who handled the initial case were suspended.

The juvenile was eventually sent to a remand home.

Vishal Agarwal spent 22 months in jail before the Supreme Court granted him bail in March 2026.

Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta were cremated in Madhya Pradesh.

Their families are still waiting for the trial to conclude.

A 17 year old in an unregistered luxury car killed two working people on a night out.

His family spent months trying to make it go away.

I’ve posted before about our family’s coffee plantation in Kodagu, which my younger sister manages, and which we’ve come to regard as our adopted ‘ancestral home.’

She just sent me this clip: a herd of elephants marching this morning from one gate of the estate (the Arabica bushes side) through to the other gate across the road (the Robusta side.)

This isn’t some new phenomenon caused by habitat encroachment. These majestic visitors have been dropping by for decades, usually to raid the jackfruit trees on the property.

But this time they seem to be strolling through the main gates with such confidence that it almost feels as if they had received a formal invitation for tea and snacks…

You get the feeling they know the plantation was always theirs, and we’re merely temporary tenants…
