Overhead power lines are usually left uninsulated to keep wires light enough to span long distances and to allow wind to safely disperse the heat generated by high electrical loads. Rather than using rubber insulation, utilities rely on air as a natural and effective insulator.
Summer is here, which means our home cooling systems are working harder and we’ll likely see higher energy bills. The good news? Small steps to save energy can make a significant difference. via @NRECANews#SaveEnergy
We were delighted to host teachers from our service area at the Empower Energy Education Workshop. This wonderful program offers hands-on learning, giving educators the chance to participate in activities about electricity generation, distribution, energy efficiency and more!

What causes power outages? Usually one of these five things:
⚡ Weather
🌳 Trees
🚗 Vehicle accidents
🔧 Equipment failure
🐿️ Animals choosing chaos
While Dixie EC can’t hold a safety meeting for squirrels, we can prepare for the unexpected.

@toyin516 Models are utilized by some, but they are also known for providing inaccurate information which members find frustrating. We do appreciate your input. Please know that our goal is to provide accurate information and safely restore power to our members as quickly as possible.
Crews continue to make steady progress. We started at a peak of over 4,100 members without power and we currently have approximately 3,400 members without power. We appreciate your continued patience and understanding.
@toyin516 These additional variables that we are unaware of could skew those estimates. The estimates would simply become an educated guess that is inaccurate and have members anticipating power restoration hours before it actually occurs.
@toyin516 To do that we would have to know all of the variables that are creating the outages to each location and assign a time estimate for the type of necessary repairs. This may seem simple, but with the type of storm damage we have, there are often additional variables downline.
Adulting is hard. Paying your electric bill shouldn’t be. That’s why Dixie EC offers auto pay. It’s one less thing on your to-do list!
