Cooler mornings. A warm pie from the neighbourhood bakery. Coffee tables still spilling onto the pavement in Pangrati. ☕
Locals shopping at the Central Market. A walk around Plaka and Thissio without planning your entire day around the midday heat. 💛

Athens is a Time-Machine; it can make you travel thousands of years in time or just give you another reason to be romantic..
..and September is the best of excuses to experience the city!
Orizontes stands as a premier destination in the Greek capital. Situated atop Mount Lycabettus, the highest peak in Athens at 277 meters above sea level, this sophisticated restaurant offers an absolutely incredible, unobstructed panoramic view of the entire Athenian landscape.
From its cliffside terrace, the view encompasses the sprawling urban grid, the iconic illuminated silhouette of the Acropolis, and the distant, shimmering waters of the Aegean Sea.
Reaching the restaurant is an experience in itself. While visitors can opt to hike the winding, pine-fringed stone paths up the hillside, the most popular and elegant method is via the Lycabettus Funicular.
This historic cable car departs from the Aristippou street station in Kolonaki, effortlessly whisking guests through a mountain tunnel directly to the peak in under three minutes.

Athens, from the Acropolis. Democracy didn't start on this rock. It started on a hill just outside the frame.
Before sunrise, men left their houses and climbed a low hill to the west. A herald opened the meeting with a single question: "Who wishes to speak?"
Anyone could answer. No party behind you, no notes, no microphone. You climbed onto a stone step, faced thousands of people, and made your case out loud.
Then they voted by raising their hands, and walked home. War, taxes, grain, exile, all decided before midday.
The hill is called the Pnyx, a short walk from the Acropolis. It costs nothing to visit and most days there's almost nobody standing on it.
Not everyone had a voice up there, not yet. But the world we value most started right there.

While the neighboring island of Milos draws global attention, the small, volcanic haven of Kimolos remains beautifully simple and fiercely authentic. For discerning travelers, September represents the absolute pinnacle of the island’s calendar, offering a tranquil transition from the hot summer months into a relaxed, crowd-free autumn.
The Climate & Sea: September brings exceptional weather to Kimolos, with predictable daytime highs of 26°C and balmy, comfortable 23°C evenings. Rainfall is virtually non-existent, and crucially, the Meltemi winds of peak summer begin to soften. Because the island has baked under the sun all summer, the sea temperatures reach their annual peak, making this the premier month for swimming and snorkeling.
Unmissable Highlights:
Prassa Beach (Agios Georgios): Universally celebrated for its striking white sand and vibrant, neon-turquoise water. In September, you can easily find a peaceful spot on the shore.
Chorio & The Kastro: The island's main village, Chorio, is an architectural marvel of pristine white alleys, blue doors, and the historic ruins of a 14th-century medieval castle.
Goupa & The Sirmata: A picturesque, tiny fishing hamlet where you can see the traditional sirmata—vividly painted caves carved into the soft volcanic rock used by local fishermen to shelter their boats.
Skiadi Geological Monument: A highly rewarding morning hike brings you to a massive, naturally formed stone "mushroom" sculpted over centuries by the wind, offering sweeping views of the surrounding Cycladic islands.
Travel Tip: Kimolos does not have an airport. The most seamless route is to fly into Athens, catch a flight or ferry to Milos, and then take the local Osia Methodia ferry from Pollonia across the narrow strait (a scenic 25-minute journey). Note that because the tourism season begins to wind down in late September, booking your boutique accommodation in advance is highly recommended.

The Rio–Antirrio Bridge is one of the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridges and longest of the fully suspended type.
It opened one day before the Athens 2004 Olympics, on 12 August 2004, and was used to transport the Olympic🔥Flame.
