From Music to Politics: A Journey of Purpose, Leadership and Community Service
Being involved in both the music industry and politics means more to me than simply having two different careers. It represents a journey of expression, influence, leadership and service to society.
Music gives a person a voice to express emotions, tell stories, inspire people and bring communities together. Politics, on the other hand, gives a person an opportunity to participate directly in decisions that affect people's daily lives. When these two worlds come together, they can create a powerful platform for communicating with people, understanding their struggles and inspiring them to believe in a better future.
Being in the music industry has taught me the importance of discipline, creativity, communication, persistence and understanding different people. Politics has taught me that leadership is not about popularity or position—it is about responsibility, accountability and serving the people.
For me, being involved in politics means being willing to listen to ordinary people and understand the challenges they face. It means speaking about issues that affect communities and helping to find practical solutions.
Why Is It Important to Become a Councillor in Your Ward?
Becoming a councillor is important because the ward is where government meets the everyday lives of ordinary people. A councillor has a responsibility to represent residents and ensure that their concerns are heard within the municipality.
A councillor should be concerned about issues such as:
- Reliable water and electricity services
- Roads, sanitation and waste management
- Community safety
- Youth development and opportunities
- Sports, arts and culture
- Education and skills development
- Local economic development
- Support for small businesses and entrepreneurs
- Opportunities for women and young people
- Transparent and accountable local government
Being a councillor should never be about having a title. It should be about having a responsibility.
A good councillor must be present in the community—not only during elections. People need representatives who will listen to them, communicate with them and follow up on the problems they raise.
Leadership Must Begin in the Community
I believe that real political leadership starts at grassroots level. If we want to change our communities, we must be willing to become part of the solution.
My experience in music has shown me that one voice can reach many people. My involvement in politics has shown me that one person who is prepared to serve can also contribute to changing the direction of a community.
The goal should therefore not simply be to become a councillor. The goal should be to become a responsible community leader who leaves a positive legacy.
A ward deserves a councillor who understands its people, respects their dignity, communicates openly and works consistently to improve their quality of life.
Music gave me a voice. Politics gives me an opportunity to use that voice in service of the people. Leadership gives me the responsibility to turn that voice into action.
The future of our communities depends on people who are prepared to participate, take responsibility and serve.
Leadership is not about being above the people. Leadership is about standing with the people.

Floyd Shivambu: I’ve Sat In Political Party Meetings Where The Top Agenda Was Planning To Steal Government Funds
“I’ve sat in a meeting where, as an official item on the agenda, there was a discussion on how to steal government money. Even figures were mentioned that… that you must take this much… I’m not telling you fiction… We are not going to legitimate nonsense that pretends to be revolutionary.”
