A bit of background on why the US Open cutting wheelchair tennis without consultation with players hurt so much. It goes beyond tennis. Really appreciate everyone’s messages of support @usopen#usopen
@VasekPospisil Thanks for sharing! Imagine only 5 more percent and give it to the futures and challengers, so not only 100 players can live out of tennis. There so much to be done and im glad to see that many are ready to unite and stand up for tennis.
Percentage of revenue given back to athletes:
MLB = 54.4%
NFL = 47%
NBA = 50%
NHL = 50%
PGA = 33% (online estimate based on available numbers)
US Open 2017 = 14% (7% men, 7% women)
Wimbledon/Roland Garros/Aussie Open = U/A
ATP Masters Events = U/A
It's time for change.
Alt. revenue streams are important, but fans need to understand the “revenue split disparity” with tennis compared to other sports. NFL, NBA and other collectively bargained leagues have approx 50/50 split w/players & owners, while tennis has 15-25% w/Tour and 7% at slams. Rough. https://t.co/ufznYT4DZp
