At an emergency meeting Dundalk IT TUI branch voted to make the maximum donation permitted under rule to the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund (€3,000) & will seek permission from TUI HQ to waive the maximum donation rule to double the amount. #UkraineCrisis https://t.co/oEyHHeh4uc
@SimonHarrisTD@DkIttui Bringing IoTs together to form TUs is difficult, but it's being done across much of the state. DkIT's "leaders", unilaterally, against all advice, decided to try something infinitely more difficult, and took us nowhere; there's a difference between ambition and fantasy.
While HEA involvement is welcome, it is a tragedy that the warnings staff raised for years regarding the foreseeable negative consequences of the DkIT President's office inexplicable refusal to negotiate with potential TU partner during this period of transformation were ignored.
Staff have urged DkIT's President's Office to engage with the TU Process for years, sadly as @SimonHarrisTD states, DkIT's President has not done so. After 5 wasted years of inaction & broken promises new Leadership is urgently needed so that the North East is not left behind.
Important to clarify practically all DkIT staff understood & wanted to fully engage with the TU Process & asked for years that talks commence with potential partners. The 'unrealistic ambitions' & neglect of the TU Process resided & resides solely in the DkIT President's office.
UPDATE: Due to the Status Orange Weather Alert for County Louth, DkIT will be CLOSED on Tuesday 7th December 2021. The campus will reopen on Wednesday 8th December 2021.
Please check the website & social media for ongoing further updates. Stay Safe. #stormbarra@DkITSportsSocs
The reason #DkIT finds itself now without TU status was the unilateral withdrawal of the Institute by President Michael Mulvey from talks with other IoTs & his subsequent refusal to engage with potential TU partners despite promises to do so. The entire region has been let down.
It's staggering how DkITs spokesperson can continue to misrepresent reality. DkIT is simply not "making steady, coherent, & purposeful progress on our journey to become a Technological University" because DkIT's future status is no longer in it's own hands, as we warned for years
Negotiations between IoTs to agree merger deals started a decade ago with the members of what is now TUDublin. Others began shortly after. #DkIT was in advanced talks to align with the current members of the new Atlantic TU in 2017, & could today be a part of the new entity.
As predicted. For years staff did all they could to raise the alarm that the current DkIT administration was not engaging with TU partners and the Institute's future status was slipping out of its own hands. Hopefully new leadership can mitigate the mistakes of the last 4 years.
Where indeed? Staff did all they could to avoid DkIT being left behind & urged DkIT's administration & Governing Body to act. Why didn't they?

Congrats to Sligo, Galway-Mayo & Letterkenny IoTs on Technological University designation. DkIT was a member of this partnership & could also have been celebrating TU designation today but was instead inexplicably withdrawn from the Consortium by President Michael Mulvey.
It’s an historic day as @LYIT @GMIT and @ITSligo warmly welcome the announcement today by @SimonHarrisTD, that together we have been approved for designation as a Technological University (TU).

@glenndoyledkit Despite the crucial wasted years when DkIT could have been building its vision for the future with partner IoTs on an equal footing, there is still a route to TU status, but the attainment of TU status now depends on the assent of other IoTs, and on the terms of those other IoTs.
Interesting article on the Technological University Transformation Fund, which again sadly shows that DkIT is continuing to lose out on millions of Euro in funding due to the broken promises & serious strategic errors of the current Institute President.

@glenndoyledkit The issue was raised for years, internally, in the media, to local & regional politicians & stakeholders, that this would happen. Eventually the president signed an agreement that he'd get to work on TU, then went back on his word and did nothing until it was too late.
'We condemn the failure of the Minister for Education and the Department to provide alternative time-bound working arrangements for teachers who have been ineligible to receive vaccines. To cause a group of pregnant workers to endure weeks of anxiety and fear is unconscionable.'
‘These teachers don’t want to go out on sick leave. They’re not sick, they’re pregnant, so we’re asking the Minister to do the right thing and to allow them to work remotely.’ - TUI Deputy General Secretary Annette Dolan on RTE News
The IIHA would like to address a mistruth being spread regarding our bid for the Ice Dome. For the last 4 1/2 years the IIHA has been in a position to either purchase, or lease, the Dundalk Ice Dome.
The truth will come out when the Public Accounts Committee bring @DkIT_ie in. An organisation with funding was tactically blocked from reopening a facility which has been allowed to become derelict. Keep up the great work @IIHA. 100% with you. #IceForIreland
This sorry saga continues. 3 years of disingenuous negotiations where we met the DKIT Heads of Terms and still no agreement to lease.
The IIHA remains ready to purchase or lease the former Dundalk Ice Dome.
