DISTURBING: Shocking video has revealed the physical abuse of a vulnerable Gulf War veteran at a New York facility, while the accused caregiver continues to collect a government paycheck.
Angela Sangroโs husband, Albert OโToole, served in the Gulf War, where an explosion caused a traumatic brain injury. Years later, he was diagnosed with Alzheimerโs disease. After placing him in a federally run facility in Montrose, NY, Sangro became alarmed by his rapid decline, which included signs of heavy medication and unexplained injuries. Concerned for his safety, she installed a hidden camera in his room.
The footage is harrowing. It shows longtime aide Matthew Cox yanking food from Albertโs hands, lifting him violently by the neck, throwing him into a chair, and punching him. Moments later, Cox struck him in the head with a broom and forcibly shoved him back into the chair. The veteran can be heard crying out in pain.
Cox was arrested prior to the release of the video. However, he remains free and continues to receive pay from the federal while awaiting trial or a resolution, a process that could take forever.
Our veterans risked everything to defend this nation. They deserve dignity, safety, and protection, not neglect and abuse in state-run facilities.
Whatโs especially troubling is that over the past year and a half, New York leaders have rushed to protest, post videos, issue statements, and visit facilities housing illegal immigrants. Yet when it comes to veterans like Albert, not one of them seems willing to show up.
Priorities matter.
Veterans FIRST.
