In 2024 the Pan-African Donkey Conference (PADCo) convened in Tanzania to foster consensus to protect not just Africa's donkeys - but the women & girls whose lives are transformed by their work.
PADCo launched a campaign & ultimately convinced the African Union to take the lead in imposing a 15-year moratorium (in 2024) on the brutal trade in donkey skins that is wiping out donkeys.
One speaker at PADCo said "We must prevent our sisters and wives becoming the donkeys again".
