Exactly 100 years ago, on July 17, 1926, the Canadian Legion was formally incorporated. For a century, we have stood as Canada’s fiercest advocate for Veterans, of Remembrance, and the backbone of communities from coast to coast to coast.

Il y a exactement 100 ans, le 17 juillet 1926, la Légion canadienne était officiellement constituée en personne morale. Depuis un siècle, nous sommes le plus ardent défenseur des vétérans au Canada, un fier gardien du Souvenir et un pilier des collectivités d’un océan à l’autre.

The wildfire situation has escalated significantly over the last three weeks across the country, and particularly in Northwestern Ontario. 

Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their communities, not knowing if their homes will survive.  

On behalf of Canadians, I want to thank the brave firefighters, first responders, Indigenous and local leaders who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.

Our government is in close contact with provincial, municipal, and Indigenous partners and stands ready to provide any additional support as needed.

Kīlauea eruption episode 51 summary 
 
🌋 Episode 51 of lava fountaining began at 8:30 a.m. HST on July 15 and ended just over 8 hours later. The lava fountain from the north vent reached a maximum height of about 950 feet (290 meters) by around 10:30 a.m. HST. Over the next several hours the fountain height gradually declined. The instantaneous effusion rate peaked at about 300 cubic meters per second around the same time and an estimated 6.6 million cubic meters of lava erupted in total.
 
💨 The north vent lava fountain fed a plume that reached a maximum height of about 18,000 feet (5,500 meters) above sea level. Winds were out of the northeast for most of the eruption causing the plume to move to the southwest. The plume track largely remained within Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park and most tephra fell in the closed area, though light Pele's hair was reported at Uēkahuna bluff and Kaʻū Desert trail head in the national park. 
 
⛔️ The USGS kept the Kīlauea alert level/aviation color code at WATCH/ORANGE throughout the episode because fallout was not extensive and did not last very long. After the episode ended, USGS lowered Kīlauea to ADVISORY/YELLOW reflecting that volcanic activity had decreased significantly but continues to be closely monitored for possible renewed increase.
