Computer Science PhD student at Carnegie Mellon. When not doing research, I like to cook ambitious food, buy too many plants, and visit my family in Slovenia.
@LeahLibresco The one semi-plausible doubt is that maybe an embryo could survive in the environment from conception but a severely premature baby could not survive transfer to such an environment.
@nwilliams030 Oh man I was actually very annoyed having to change/feed in the special baby room and then schlep my baby off to the women's toilets after, I wish they included toilets more often
@MCMCD_ It really is! If I have one tip to give, I think many providers don't mention the fact that if baby tolerates the ECV attempt well, it is safe to have more attempts if the first is not successful.
@74quinn74@Romy_Holland Fair enough but I don't actually eat shrimp! I don't eat or cook any shellfish at all so I'm just kind of laughing at the idea that I'm supposed to give it to my baby
@LeahLibresco There's also an unfortunate underside that providers like mine, who have very low rates of C-section and serious birth injury, actually have the time to devote special attention to the few women with more complicated births. Hard to do if your C-section rate is 40%
@Romy_Holland I think I have an easy baby--he sleeps through the night at 5 months, naps easily in his crib during the day, will play for ~30 mins on his own when sufficiently fed/rested, and doesn't usually need much focused entertainment except towards the end of a wake window
@LeahLibresco I think the (alleged) hypocrisy is in the claim that marriage and children are something that they just happen to personally aspire to, rather than something that it is *good* to aspire to. This is more nuanced and honestly harder to judge from the outside
@RizomaSchool Aside from that strange throwaway bit about $10K I appreciated the article tbh. There are now SO many products out there that claim to help with breastfeeding and if you're struggling to breastfeed there is so much pressure to just keep trying to solve it by buying more stuff.
@simonsarris Do you/Simi have any practical advice on keeping a beautiful house with a baby? I do some babywearing and it works to an extent but my son gets bored and fussy quite fast when I'm cleaning or cooking while wearing him.
@Romy_Holland I guess I'm thinking specifically of rationalist adjacent people who also do some very suspect race science (not naming bc I don't want to start a fight). For them I think it's their excessive rationality that stops them from just saying "this is crazy and can't be true"
@Romy_Holland Traveling with our 3mo baby we used the Uppababy bassinet as both our stroller seat + overnight bed (on the floor) and that worked great. That bassinet is "overnight sleep certified" so I'm not sure how they got around that regulation. Sadly not applicable for your 8mo baby :(
