BREAKING: Trump's Defense Secretary pick Pete Hegseth face-plants in humiliating fashion during his Senate hearing as his profound ignorance is laid bare before the world.
Clearly, this genius forgot to do his homework...
"You talk about the Indo-Pacific a little bit and I'm glad that you mentioned it. Can you name the importance of at least one of the nations in ASEAN and what type of agreement we have with at least one of those nations," asked Senator Tammy Duckworth, who is herself a combat veteran.
"And how many nations are in ASEAN?" she added.
ASEAN stands for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and it includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
It's a crucial political and economic union. It's the sort of thing that the average American likely knows little about but that a Defense Secretary should understand inside and out.
"I couldn't tell you the exact of amount of nations in that," admitted a dumbfounded Hegseth. "But I know that we have allies in South Korea and Japan and in AUKUS with Australia trying... to work on submarines with them..."
"Mr. Hegseth none of those countries are in ASEAN. None of those three countries that you've mentioned are in ASEAN!" said Duckworth. "I suggest you do a little homework before you prepare for these types of negotiations."
This is utterly disqualifying for Hegseth. Beyond the allegations of alcoholism and sexual abuse, the man is deeply uninformed about the world. Putting him charge of the Pentagon would be a mistake of historic proportions.
