Ever increasingly we hear from the modern world “Live your truth.” or “Be your authentic self, find your own identity.” while the gospel tells us who our Savior is. It tells us what our identity is in our natural state, but more importantly it tells us what our identity can be in Christ.

We cannot save ourselves, we cannot live out unnatural lives contrary to God’s design while demanding justification. Cling to the Cross, seek first the kingdom of God and lean on Him rather than yourself.

Owen published this in 1656, while Vice-Chancellor of Oxford, from various sermons he had preached. He wasn’t selling self-made discipline or promoting the idea of man conquering sin of his own accord.

For Owen, sin is put to death by the Spirit, with one’s faith set upon Christ, and no believer outgrows the work.

Hmm… I think this guy needs to back and read his Bible.

1 Timothy 3:2
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior, hospitable, able to teach;

1 Timothy 3:12
Let deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

Titus 1:6
if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.

Paul calls believers to holiness right after quoting God’s promises to dwell among His people and be a Father to them (2 Corinthians 6:16–18). We don’t pursue holiness to earn His nearness. We pursue it because He has already promised it.

From “Morning & Evening” by Charles H. Spurgeon.

“Do not be afraid to dwell upon this high doctrine of election.”

[Zach @DocKrease]

If you stood before God tonight and He asked, “Why should I let you into heaven?” what would your reason be?

One sentence or less.

[Zach @DocKrease]

Again… because you identify her as a Calvinist, that makes her one, irregardless of what she professes to believe? That’s a poor position to hold to.

I would heavily encourage you to stop letting your apparent hatred towards the word “Calvinism” influence how you respond to other people when dealing with a theological debate.

This rabid “Oh, Calvinist! I must ignore EVERYTHING they say automatically now.” mindset is honestly eerily similar to liberals and how emphatic they are on shutting down everything that does not align with their own view.

[Zach @DocKrease]

O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. (Romans 7:24–25, NKJV)

[Zach @DocKrease]

@sola_chad I really… really, do not like this guy.

[Zach @DocKrease]

Scripture declares that it makes the man of God “complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

In today’s world, where do you see Christians reading past the text for more than scripture gives us? Feelings, “fresh words,” tradition, or something else?

[Zach @DocKrease]

While scripture doesn’t directly say, “Masturbation no no, don’t do.” it does say plenty about God’s design for sex and whom it’s designed for.

The Bible also says quite a bit about not being self-serving, putting aside one’s own desires and focusing upon others, much less Christ.

Masturbation simply put, is a wholly selfish act. Speaking from the male perspective -and one that has fallen more than my fair share down that rabbit hole- doing this puts your mind in the habit of looking at the opposite sex as a pleasure piece, rather than an individual created by God.

And if you’re lusting after someone who’s not your spouse? Well… God says a good bit about that too.

TL;DR ~ Be like Joseph… flee lust dudes and dudettes.

From “Morning & Evening” by Charles H. Spurgeon.

“It has no dominion; it is a broken-backed snake; we are in bitter conflict with it, but it is with a vanquished foe that we have to deal.”

[Zach @DocKrease]

At its fourth session in 1546, the Council of Trent set church tradition alongside Scripture. The Reformers answered that only God can bind the conscience, so every council, creed, and teacher answers to His Word, not the other way around.

[Zach @DocKrease]

Warfield gave this as a lecture, published in 1894, when critics were saying the Bible held “more of the error of man” than Christians had believed. His answer: the church has always received Scripture as God’s Word in every part, not a book we sift for pieces of it.

[Zach @DocKrease]

@AbolitionRising They love reducing everything down to the basest possible level, so that they can soothe their conscience and nullify any conviction they feel.

[Zach @DocKrease]

@5SolasMissy @dtorres91705 @ComeYeSinners Every single time I and many others have pointed out the obvious fallacies with his “context”, he magically forgets to respond.

I hate to say it, but it appears more and more that he’s simply hardened against hearing anything we say to him.

[Zach @DocKrease]

@LizzieMarbach That is a man with little to no honor…

[Zach @DocKrease]

The Bible isn’t about Jesus? Jesus Himself said differently: “You search the Scriptures… and these are they which testify of Me” (John 5:39).

On the Emmaus road He expounds, “in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Luke 24:27).

You’re right in that the problem is man; we are utterly devoid of righteousness and are in need of a Savior, which we learn of in the Scriptures. Jesus isn’t a side character or a minor figure; He is the second Person of the triune Godhead. All things were created “through Him and for Him” (Col. 1:16).
