Dr Mark Joffe did nothing when it came to blatant racism sent by another Physician Leader at AHS. He further belittled an Indigenous physician colleague and myself when we expressed concern about asking Indigenous docs to provide medical support at the /1

Here is the news clip about Racism in AHS today about an incident I recently had to report - for some reason, there was no Twitter link to share. @CBCNews https://t.co/6fFXUe9Aj5
Colonization is a threat to Indigenous women & all women. Indigenous women were matriarchs, leaders & the foundation of our societies. Misogyny is a violation of the Laws of 🐢 Island, & has no place on these Lands. Men do not tell women what to do. 🛑 Colonial violence.
@DrMakokis They want u to be avail to treat the head of the org that stole ur children, abused & murdered ur ancestors, destroyed ur communities & tried to make u forget ur languages & traditions?
HELLLLLLL NOOOOOOO.
I'm not Indigenous, but I AM Jewish & if they asked me to treat N*zis..
Tomorrow, June 21, is National Indigenous Peoples Day and Alberta Health Services is hosting a Physicians Panel to discuss. One out of the four doctors is Indigenous. I’ll just leave this here.
How many people feel about Ron Orr being the new Minister for the Status of Women in Alberta is how many Indigenous People feel when non-Indigenous people are in Indigenous health leadership positions. There are more than enough qualified Indigenous People to do this now.
I 💯% agree that the @CMA_Docs process is flawed and when I saw the list was shocked there were no women physician candidates - I believe I’m the only candidate who announced I would change the process to alternating male and female presidents to immediately ensure gender /1
Everybody please remember this when Jason Kenney and his UCP ministers tweet out pipeline endorsements from Indigenous leaders and claim to care what Indigenous People think.
@AB_MD_WarRoom@VBhellaMD@AlikaMD@DrNoelGrisdale @DrMichaelG1 1 solution to the equity question of gender parity and 0 female docs is to have alternating male and female identified presidents each year. This would solve the issue of 0 female candidates. Also supporting child care at meetings, more virtual meetings for participation #mdprez
@AB_MD_WarRoom@VBhellaMD@AlikaMD@DrNoelGrisdale @DrMichaelG1 I wish I didn’t have to do this, as this is literally an ADL for BIPOC people, and is exhausting. What we need is white people holding other white people accountable for racism as recently posted in a high impact journal “teen Vogue”: https://t.co/TDW33lQiwy #mdprez /end
@AB_MD_WarRoom@VBhellaMD@AlikaMD@DrNoelGrisdale @DrMichaelG1 Cases like this are all too common in the indigenous patients I see and in my trans health practice. We have to first name racism. If we can’t do this then we cannot move forward. Our regulatory bodies have a huge role to play in this as do the accreditation bodies /1 #mdprez
@AB_MD_WarRoom@AlikaMD@DrNoelGrisdale@VBhellaMD @DrMichaelG1 Health care should be equal access for all. Currently in Alberta the conservative provincial government is “working with” First Nations to use the loophole of sovereignty to introduce the potential of paying privately for services including surgical care. /1 #MDprez
@AB_MD_WarRoom@AlikaMD@DrNoelGrisdale@VBhellaMD @DrMichaelG1 This would undoubtedly affect the entire health system and be the start of a further two tiered system. We must protect our publicly funded, universal health system to ensure equity /end #MDPREz
@AB_MD_WarRoom@AlikaMD @DrMichaelG1 @DrNoelGrisdale@VBhellaMD Think I’m getting the hang of it now. 1) sustainability of health care system which comes with investments upstream in public health determinants to prevent illness and prioritizing healthy public policy, including child care, Pharmacare, quality long term care
