A Closer Look at What Jesus Says in John 6 and 12

1. Aɴsᴡᴇʀ ᴛᴏ Jᴀᴍᴇs Wʜɪᴛᴇ’s (@HwsEleutheroi’s) Qᴜᴇs���ɪᴏɴ: The Father’s giving of believers to Christ precedes them becoming believers.

2. • Leighton Flowers (@Soteriology101) replying that the Father gives those who believe to the Son evades #1’s answer and obfuscates that those who believe are all those the Father already gave to the Son.

• Citing John 6:64 dodges 6:65 where Jesus states that the only ones who believe are those to whom the Father gives the ability to come to Christ in saving faith.

• John 6:45’s “heard and learned from the Father” quotes Isaiah 54:13 which in turn parallels Jeremiah 31:33-34’s description of regeneration, which sinners can’t cause but God does: “I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts.…no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and each his brother…”

3. • The “all” Jesus refers to in John 12:32 connects back to the Greeks who asked to see Him in 12:20, prompting His allusion to Daniel 7:13-14’s prophecy that the Son of Man will be given glory and dominion over all nations.

• None of the references from John, Romans, Mark, or Matthew make hardening redemptive for those hardened.

"All that the Father gives Me will come to Me"

The immediate context is Jesus' statement that though they have seen Him, "they are not believing."

So, which action comes first? The giving of person X by the Father to the Son, or, the coming of person X to the Son?

The position you have both expressed seems to indicate that all people have the ability to come to the Son freely, at any point, correct? But would it also not follow that all those who come do so without reference to a specific "giving" by the Father?
