On to the #Isles and a memorable Hockey Night on Long Island:

-- Schaefer showed why he's The One. #Isles weren't generating enough yet again, getting bogged down in a low-event game at 2-1 in the third and he made it happen all on his own. We've discussed here and on the podcasts about how this #Isles forward group, especially with Horvat out, doesn't have anyone beyond Barzal who can take over a game and will the team into some offense. Maybe they don't need to.

The 12 goals in 42 games as an 18-year-old is obviously wild, but Schaefer also has 113 SOG. That's 2nd on the team behind Horvat (122), 4th among all D-men and 31(!!!) more than any other rookie. He's top 35 in the league in SOG. There's no hesitation, no deferring, no coach telling him to get others involved. Go out and do it. That's huge for his confidence and clearly huge for a team that doesn't have a deep enough group of game-breakers.

-- Felt a little like the TOR game at UBS when Tavares got his 1,000th point, with Matthews setting the Leafs goal record and his teammates celebrating on #Isles ice. #Isles won that one in OT too. Seems like things in Leafsland are tense enough these days without worrying about the #Isles fans who still boo JT when he plays here, so at least that fake outrage is over with.

What fans in TO and on LI should embrace is how low-key terrific this rivalry is. The 2002 playoff series is a long time ago now, but not for everyone; that was a formative moment in #Isles fandom for a lot of current STH. And the JT thing has kept it going. Barzal's hat trick in Toronto, Horvat's OT winner in the Tavares 1K game and now Schaefer's HNIC debut -- may everyone subtly hate like this forever.
