Bird net removal last Saturday, and harvest nearly completed over Labor Day. While yields were challenging this year at fruit set, the quality is very good. Mother Nature tends to bring things back in balance #westsonomacoast#sonomapinot#grapegrowing#2022harvest#DocsRanch
Installing a research-grade weather station at Doc’s Ranch Vineyard this spring! Will provide real time temperature, rainfall, wind speed & direction, evapotranspiration, and soil moisture data from anywhere in the world. #sustainability#FishFriendlyFarming#organicviticulture
The saddest news today from California is not @vinography on the seriously worrying drought there but this https://t.co/sdYrt4nt6i about one of the wine world's brightest lights:
Thinking of you Mom (JoAnn), on what would've been your 89th birthday. We miss you every day. I know you're enjoying your favorite chardonnay in heaven, save some for me ok? Love you so much. #GreatMoms#winelovers#chardonnay#DocsRanch#missyou
With such high quality standards, we elected not to harvest our Pinot crop this year due to the risk of post-fermentation smoke taint. We did harvest the Chardonnay in JoAnn’s Block so all not lost. But 2020 has been tough for so many. #winelovers#2020fires#sonoma
Up go the nets! One month from harvest and the birds wanna shelter in place @ Doc’s Ranch Vineyard. Sorry tweetie birds, no masks, no can do 😉 #pinot#chardonnay#harvest2020
Decent set this year. This was taken a week ago in our Swan blocks. Barring unforeseen events, think Doc’s Ranch is on track for another 2 tons per acre year.
Grafting over several dozen “feral” Pinot vines to Chardonnay at Doc’s Ranch. These were planted by mistake in 2011 when the crew mixed up our benchgrafts between the two varietals. 😬
