@OddysseyTalks The unfathomably expository dialog for the entire first episode made it miserable to watch. The show got better after a few episodes, but the first 3ish were just filled with plot setup that was mostly nothing but characters explaining the situation and context. F-tier writing.
@Imravnos@parkerslawyer If you cast an actor for her that’s like 15/16, they can pass for 13/14 and play the young team member for a whole trilogy. Cast a 25 yo, and Kitty’s instead the oldest team member.
@parkerslawyer Tom’s been playing the character since he was a teenager. The point of casting young is so they can grow with the role. Cast a 30 year old, and you’ll be stuck with a 40 yo Kitty/Jubilee by the time they finish the mutant saga.
@mrmightyrezz@_ChristopherM Kitty’s a cool character. Would be a shame to erase one of the core components of her character just cuz a bunch of weirdos only want superheroes they think they can bang.
@mrmightyrezz@_ChristopherM The main difference with Spider-Man being that he started when he looked like a kid and aged into the adult Peter Parker. The foundation of Kitty’s character is that she started as a little kid (13 iirc) and grew up with X-Men into a leader. Feel like you have to start with ~16
@mrmightyrezz@dhebshxbxbb Keyword = almost. Tom Holland also has always had a baby face. But at 30, he also looks like 27-28. That’s not to say that 30s are old, but that they don’t look like they’re in 20s. Ppl also typically start aging a bit faster in their 30s.
@trinibratzdoll1@DoomsServant The ongoing streaming focuses on world building and the drama/relationships like a high school drama. Give a few years to bring in and develop new characters, then the 3rd movie faces a threat that needs all mutants united, bringing all the different X-teams together.
@trinibratzdoll1@DoomsServant I’d love the 1st movie to stick to just the core team forming Xavier’s first class. The 2nd expands the team with the addition of Nightcrawler, Colossus, Magik, etc, and at the end the originals graduate. Kickoff a New Mutants ongoing streaming series centered on Kitty as POV.
@AlMysteri I just want a Hickman Daredevil. At this point, he’s probably the only writer that can revive ASM. Just give him whatever books he wants and let him do his thing. Barely anyone else is making anything good.
@RichardLNewby3@wandasdoula This isn’t 2002. 30 year olds in movies today aren’t passing for teenagers (they didn’t then, but it was the norm). Why cast someone that looks visibly older than most of their teammates to play a character that’s traditionally the kid of the group?
@RichardLNewby3@wandasdoula The core of her character is the journey she took from childhood to one of the most dependable leaders they have. Obv anyone can make up whatever story they want; they’re fictional characters. Instead of skipping past characters’ journeys, just make a similar oc.
@RichardLNewby3@wandasdoula They literally started Spider-Man as a kid that constantly makes mistakes, suffers trauma, and learns to overcome. They may have changed the origin details around a bit (Uncle Ben/Aunt May), but the core of the character was there. They didn’t skip his formative years.
@wandasdoula@RichardLNewby3 The point of these adaptations is to adapt the characters and stories from the page to the screen. They usually try to at least portray the character true to the page even of the story isn’t accurate. But dude wants to erase the characters too just to rush them on screen.
@wandasdoula@RichardLNewby3 What if they just decided that Steve Rogers wasn’t some scrawny, frail kid but instead an athlete? Or if the Maximoffs weren’t related to Magneto (oh wait, they aren’t, and they killed them off before they got a chance to interact with Magneto)
