Some great moments: Reds win the 1940 WS in 7 games over the Tigers. The "Ragamuffin Reds" win the 1961 NL pennant over the favored Dodgers. So you excluded HOF manager Bill McKechnie and Fred Hutchinson, two of the 3 greatest Reds managers, the great 1940 Reds starting rotation, and F. Robinson, V. Pinson, etc.
@RJ_T0day@Reds@stewart_sal@espn Marge Schott loudly protested ESPN's ending the long held MLB tradition of an afternoon Reds game opening the season, instead opting for the evening of Easter Sunday. This outraged a lot of people nationally.
Lance McAllister wrote an article about Marge being right for once.
@RJ_T0day@Reds@stewart_sal@espn ESPN has been putting down the Reds for decades, even during their division championship years of 2010 and 2012 (97 wins, 9 games ahead of the Cardinals, they were still biased toward the Cards). And they never ever stop talking about the Yankees.
That was the funniest part. But the damaging part was Suarez not paying attenttion to what Steer was doing. Steer had to wait until he could see the ball would get past the pithcer, and by then it was too late to break for home. Suarez standing on 3rd while Steer was running back to 3rd also kind of comical.
Pirate fans have always been a little stupid. When Clint Hurdle was having his pitchers throw at hitters on every team they faced, they blamed the other teams. They would get riled whenever McCutcheon would get hit, even when the game situation dictated that it could not have been intentional. And their broadcasters were even worse.
@Reds In the 6-5 loss to the Brewers, Francona left Moss in one batter too long. So today he tops that by leaving Moss in for two batters too long and blowing the lead. Aagh.
@Reds After Stewart GIDP'd and Bleday had 2 strikes on him, I was just waiting for strike 3 and already thinking of what a depressing loss it was. When Suarez got to strike 2, I was about to close my laptop in disgust. Talk about changing the whole script with one swing.
@Reds I enjoy a win over the Pirates, regardless of circumstances. An obnoxious Pirate broadcaster used to shout: "It's a Mar-tay Par-tay" whenever Sterling Marte would do damage to the Reds. This time it's our Mar-tay Par-tay, asshole.
@bryancooke1@WeAreMU75@Reds "You have to really, really enjoy games like this to be a Reds fan ,,, " Exactly. Caleb Ferguson only gave up 2 HRs in 70 innings in 2025. Finally he's in form and pitching in the kind of situation I'd imagined: facing hitters like Lowe and Reynolds as the tying runs.
@RogerKinney8@Reds@PNCBank Marte rakes against RHed pitching. And with only part time play, he'll lose his timing again. Francona has something against him and is hurting the team.
Whatever solution Lodolo is using for his blister problem, it's affected the release of his back foot curve ball. Yesterday he had no control of it at all. Francona said after the game. "His breaking pitch was really good yesterday, in NY he was just missing." I understand the "just missing" part, he was close enough to get swings and misses. But "really good yesterday" ? Maybe he meant he was using it a lot and it sometimes was breaking nicely, even if missing by a lot.
@LockedOnReds I agree about Antone. In the 5-3 win over the Mets, after he walked the first two batters in the 8th, I thought he'd blow the lead, but from there he made some good hitters look silly, in at least two cases with his sweeper.
First, I love you guys. But in your discussion of J. J. Bleday last night you did not even consider the possibility that he's made an adjustment that has made him a better hitter. I saw side by side videos of his old swing vs. his new swing, they're very different. An analyst described the changes in detail. But the main point was easy to see - he's using his back leg to generate more power than before. With a tiny sample size of only two weeks, the analyst confidently predicted that Bleday will continue to hit better and with more power than in the past.
Francona said after the game that in NY Lodolo's curve ball was missing by "just enough". That made sense, he struck out 7, walked none, and no runs through 6 innings. But then he added that today his breaking pitch was "really good". !!!?? Today he was either way off the plate or right over the plate, completely ineffective.
@Reds So many good things in that win. Lowder was back in form. Petty had nasty stuff and showed some poise.
Marte of course. Santillan threw like last year but it's going to be a while before I can trust him.
@TioNates@DrewMoats1@Reds@MarteNoelvi He didn't have to stay with the Bats as long as he did, it was more than a month. He had 160 ABs, batting .369 with a .984 OPS. Bats manager Pat Kelly praised his progress on offense and defense weeks ago, but Francona was stuck on Friedl.
