In the last few weeks there have been serious and concerning developments regarding my sons’ father, Imran Khan’s treatment in prison. The Pakistan authorities have stopped all visits to him by his family and his lawyers. They have also postponed all court hearings. In addition to cutting off in- person visits, and in defiance of a court order, his weekly calls to his sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, who are British and who live in London, were stopped on 10th September. We have received reports that the authorities have now turned off the lights and electricity in his cell and he is no longer allowed to leave his cell at any time. The jail cook has been sent on leave. He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.
These actions come in the context of ongoing targeting of Imran’s family, as well as his party (PTI) members and supporters in an attempt to silence them and all political opposition in Pakistan. Imran’s nephew, Hassan Niazi, a civilian, has been detained in military custody since August 2023. More recently, Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma and Aleema Khan, who have continued to speak out on his behalf, have also been arrested as they made their way peacefully to a demonstration and they are currently being held in jail, despite there being no proper or lawful basis for their imprisonment.
In June this year the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Imran is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained and called for his immediate release.
As a matter of urgency , we are calling for Imran Khan’s release, and for the release of his sisters and nephew as well as for his sons’ contact with their father to be re-established, so that they may have assurance first-hand that he is well and not being mistreated.

Dear Ambassador @hazaigham@PakinKyrgyzstan@ForeignOfficePk the following steps must be taken immediately to ensure the safety of 🇵🇰 students and community:
1- provide medical/first aid to the injured as a priority.
2- the safe evacuation of🇵🇰 students from the areas of unrest to 🇵🇰 embassy or other safe places.
3- if evacuation is not possible, then demand the #Kyrgyz govt to provide paramount security to student residences to ensure no further attacks on them.
4- ensure they get food, water and medicine while they’re staying in those residences during this unrest.
5- as this situation is not just with 🇵🇰 students, other foreign students are also affected or being attacked. Therefore, @ForeignOfficePk must contact other countries like India, Bangladesh, Egypt and other countries for joint action and demand #Kyrgyz govt to take strict action against the local goons to ensure no further attacks on foreign students.
6- until firm actions are taken by #Kyrgyz govt to ensure foreign students' safety in future, 🇵🇰 should arrange emergency #PIA flights to evacuate 🇵🇰 from #Kyrgyzstan
7- as it's almost summer vacation time in #Kyrgyzstan all 🇵🇰 students can come home. And if these students don't feel comfortable going back, @GovtofPakistan must accommodate these students by giving them admissions in 🇵🇰 universities or colleges I'm the respective programs and years to complete their degrees here.
Thanks 🙏
Thousands of Indian and Pakistani medical students attacked by locals in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, in the early hours of Saturday, with hundreds reported injured.
Aggressive efforts have been made to make sure the safety and security of thousands of #Pakistani & #Indian law abiding , decent and hardworking students in #Kyrgyzstan
We have been assured that all measures are being taken and things should normalize with in 24 hours.
We will watch situation very closely.
Ambassador Zaigham, Apparently that Advice has not worked, Mobs in Bishkek have broken doors, have assaulted many Pakistani students, and apparently killed a few, female students have been assaulted too. You needed to be able to request Anti-Riot Police or Paramilitary from the local Government! This is your role as Ambassador, you could have involved Foreign Minister Dar and Army HQ from Pindi in this initiative, to emphasize Urgency!
