Istanbul, 2026 — The Turkish judiciary has taken one of the sharpest legal steps against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in recent years. On November 7, 2025, the Istanbul prosecutor's office issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and 36 other senior Israeli officials. In April 2026, a broad indictment followed, demanding life sentences and thousands of years in prison.

According to Turkish authorities, Netanyahu, Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and other members of the Israeli government and military bear criminal responsibility for genocide and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The indictment is based primarily on the Israeli intervention against the Global Sumud humanitarian flotilla in October 2025.

The flotilla, consisting of dozens of ships, was carrying humanitarian aid and hundreds of international activists. The Israeli navy stopped it in international waters, seized the ships, detained the activists and later deported them. The Turkish prosecutor's office qualifies this as intentional infliction of bodily harm, cruel treatment, robbery and illegal detention of means of transport.

Chronology of key events:

November 2025 - Arrest warrants issued for 37 people (Istanbul Criminal Court at the request of the prosecutor's office).

April 11-12, 2026 - Formal indictment filed with the Istanbul High Criminal Court. Requested sentences: life imprisonment plus a cumulative 1,102 to 4,596 years in prison per person.

Turkey is proceeding on the basis of universal jurisdiction under Articles 76 and 77 of the Turkish Penal Code and refers to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea. The indictment also covers the wider events in Gaza, including the blockade and attacks on civilian infrastructure.

Israel has strongly rejected the Turkish actions, calling them a politically motivated “PR stunt” by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has long supported the Palestinian side. Israeli authorities claim that the flotilla was a provocation in the service of Hamas and that the intervention was a legitimate defense of the naval blockade.

The case represents a further escalation of diplomatic tensions between Turkey and Israel and is part of a wider international debate on legal responsibility for the events in Gaza. Turkey is thus following up on the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant from 2024.

This is absolutely fascinating. That's the salary level for entry-level workers in Xinjiang right now.

We just saw this hiring ad 👇 in front of an ice cream shop in Yining:
- 5k to 10k monthly salary ($750 to $1,500)
- Free accommodation
- Free food

Not a bad package, even better than France! The so-called "SMIC" (base salary) in France is roughly $1,500 a month but you obviously don't get free accommodation or food with that, and it's the bunch of people's monthly expenses. And, of course, everything is much cheaper in China than in France.

So we're literally at a stage where an entry-level ice cream shop worker in Xinjiang has better purchasing power than a minimum wage worker in France.

Research by Hall (2023) found that West Antarctica cooled by more than 1.8C between 1999 and 2018.

Satellite data confirm continent-wide cooling, as do multiple glacier studies.

Piccini (2024) found the Collins Glacier was 1km farther back 6,000 years ago and began re-advancing about 1,000 years ago, which is clear evidence of cooling since the Medieval Warm Period.

Even the biology of the continent documents this shift.

A millennium ago, the Ross Sea hosted around 200,000 elephant seals as far south as 78 degrees. Today, those colonies are gone. They disappeared as the region froze over: too cold and ice-choked for breeding or foraging.
