I think structurally these movies are very different. Superman is trying to be a high octane pulpy science fantasy adventure, capturing a glimpse in the life of this whimsical character with an emotional core rooted in self identity, love, and the innate goodness in sentient kind. It’s like a warm hug with charm and spectacle.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is more of an emotionally grounded character study with flourishes of outer worldbuilding such as the Avengers and X-Men. It’s an emotional reality check centered around the human psyche as the foundation for its narrative.

What these two have in common though is a similar mission statement in creating a definitive filmic experience that captures the tone and atmosphere these characters and their worlds inhabit, similar to Matt Reeves The Batman. They’re both technically AUs that take certain creative liberties from the source, but still capitalize on what makes these characters special and why they resonate with timeless quality.

They’re superhero love letters.
