This is an excellent transfer from Warner Bros, and the restoration work is even better. For a movie from 2008, I expected something rough, but this looks like it was shot yesterday. The colors are ultra saturated, and the contrast is super bright. It’s not a typical look for a movie, but it fits Speed Racer perfectly. Nothing is crushed, nothing is muddy, and you never have to squint to see what’s happening. It feels bold in a way modern movies don’t even try anymore.

The sharpness is impressive. It looks as sharp, or sharper, than a lot of 4K digital movies today. I was expecting harsh color, blown‑out highlights, and oversharpening, but none of that is here. The image is wild, but it’s controlled. It feels fresh compared to the flat, low‑contrast digital look we get now.

The only real flaw is the aliasing. You can see some stair‑stepping in certain scenes, which makes sense since the source was 1080p. It’s noticeable, but it’s also understandable. Outside of that, this is probably the best digital restoration I’ve ever seen. A wonderful disc and a huge surprise.

AUDIO QUALITY
The new Dolby Atmos track is excellent. The bass hits hard, the surrounds stay active, and the height channels add a lot during the races. It’s a real upgrade, and I wasn’t expecting it to be this good.

The only thing holding it back is dialog clarity during some of the louder racing scenes. Voices dip under the effects, and it’s not as clean as the best mixes out there. When you compare it to something like Dune 2 or The Batman, those movies keep dialog perfectly clear no matter what’s happening. Speed Racer doesn’t always do that.

But outside of those moments, the track sounds great. The music is strong, the effects have weight, and the Atmos mix brings the whole world to life. It’s a very good upgrade.

OVERALL & MOVIE THOUGHTS
The disc looks fantastic and sounds excellent. It’s one of the biggest surprises of the year for me.

As for the movie, I didn’t expect to like it this much. I didn’t love it when it first came out, but seeing it now with this restoration and this mix made me appreciate how wild and creative it really is. It’s loud, colorful, and completely committed to its style. It's certainly not a movie that I'd typically recommend, but I ended up having a great time with it.
