@TharriesYT It was a good finale. I didn't mind that there wasn't an actual war at any point, the threat of war and the genocide was more thrilling to me. The romance was underdeveloped, some lines were cringe, and the villains were a bit too mustache twirling, but the rest was solid stuff.
The War Between the Land and the Sea was a good show. Some great moments, some duds. But RTD stuck the landing which proves he's still capable of solid finales, he's just chosen not to do those on Doctor Who. I guess the main show is just trash for toddlers in his eyes these days
@WhovianLife This is still mostly RTD's show, since RTD came up with the idea and wrote half of it, including the first and last episodes. If the most important parts of the story work, they work because of RTD. I'll believe Pete McTighe is capable of great Who when he writes a classic alone.
@WilliamWho27 RTD and Bad Wolf are fully to blame for the creative choices they made. Disney was just a distributor with minimal involvement. RTD has always taken spin-offs and his own shows more seriously than Doctor Who. He simply thinks Doctor Who should be camp kids stuff so it suffers.
@willbondspeare We can only hope RTD is aware of how hard his writing missed the mark and he locks in now that he has the chance to fix his mistakes. He is still a great writer if he wants to be. If he gives Paul a Wild Blue Yonder instead of a Reality War, then I'll be happy. But we'll see...
Not sure how I feel about Paul McGann possibly coming back as the 8th Doctor. On the one hand he is my favorite Doctor and I desperately need him to get more TV material, and on the other hand I'm really afraid the writing won't do him justice. I don't want more 8 if it ain't gr8
@frombwtocolor 50 % of the War Between the Land and the Sea is written by RTD. And RTD is writing the first and last episodes, which means the story is ultimately in his control. If it's good, it's good because of RTD. This show will tell us very little about Pete McTighe's capabilities.
@Ethan_LMP@adrparkinson But they don't damage the reputation of a Doctor and his entire era (if not the whole show) like the Reality War does. You can't just forget it when a regeneration story sucks. There are bad episodes and then there are BAD episodes, ones that ruin the Doctor's most important hour
While RTD is the main reason for the new era failing, even people like Murray Gold are making bad creative choices. In the Moffat era his music served the scenes, but now there's no subtlety and he blasts schmaltzy music at the worst times. It's just too much wonder. Tone it down
@Shutendouji666@Phoenix2wenty4 To me that's just character development and the Doctor aging. It's still 10 from the body to the mannerisms. The biggest change to me is his sexuality, but maybe 10 just accepted parts of himself that he hadn't before. People are allowed to change.
RTD is capable of good writing, just look at episodes like Wild Blue Yonder and Dot and Bubble, but he really fails at the big picture stuff like the finales, the arcs and the characters. Gatwa leaving obviously ruined his plans, but the plans weren't good in the first place.
Doctor Who should start the numbering of seasons from scratch every time there's a new Doctor. Just call it Doctor Who: the 16th Doctor - Season 1 for example. We need that after the 2026 special. The worst thing they could do is call it season 3. We don't want that RTD2 baggage.
I feel like I'm in the minority here but I don't think the future of 'Doctor Who' will be better now that Disney aren't involved.
Based on all evidence (happy to be proven wrong) Disney were not the problem. The issue was that RTD gave them a show a mass audience wouldn't watch.
@_PigginTeaBreak The Boss AKA the Master as a giant CGI tooth. A rushed Susan reunion. Poppy saves the day deus ex machina. Not just one but multiple Tennant cameos: give me 10, give me 14, give me the Metacrisis Doctor! Billie and 14 kiss and merge into one body in a reverse bigeneration into 16
@ChrisWalkerT I want RTD to deliver the most godawful piece of shit episode we've ever seen just so the people who think Disney was the problem will wake up
@JboiHQ Yeah. Disney didn't write giant CGI Sutekh/Omega or Tennant and Piper nostalgia twists, it was RTD. It's all RTD. I have no faith in him, especially since he wrote himself into a corner where he now likely has to bring back Tennant a second time for a 60th 2.0 with Piper. Ugh
@thatotherharry It's the final episode of 15's era but won't even feature 15. It's gonna be a bizarre epilogue. Most of it will be wasted on explaining Billie Piper after which she gets shoved out to make way for a new Doctor. Better get ready for even more absolute trash everybody
