DO NOT fall for this fertility scam.
My aunt who was trying to conceive was told by a friend that there was one hospital where they had a very good success rate in treating infertility. This was after she had already gone through about 4 failed IVF cycles. After several nudges and pep talks, she finally decided to visit the facility.
The first red flag was the location and the outlook of the hospital. It was tucked away in one lungu in Lagos and looked more like a primary health care centre than a fertility clinic. At that point, however, she was already invested. She really wanted to see what the place was all about.
After paying her registration fee, she was told to wait for the 'doctor'. While sitting there, she noticed several women with large tummies drinking from different bottles. The whole thing felt strange, so she immediately called my mum to let her know where she was, just in case.
When she was eventually called in, she met a young man who introduced himself as the specialist. He asked a few questions, prescribed some things and then gave her three specific instructions.
First, she would be given some concoctions which she had to take at specific times and in a specific way.
Second, she would get pregnant, but she must never go anywhere else for a scan. According to him, if she did a scan outside their facility, the pregnancy would not be seen and she might lose it.
Third, when it was time to deliver, she would be told where to go and have her baby.
She thanked him and went to collect the prescribed herbal mixtures.
While waiting for her driver, a young lady came to sit beside her. Sensing her skepticism, the lady began to share her testimony. She claimed to be about 8 months pregnant and said that in a few weeks she would travel to another city to deliver her baby.
My aunt listened politely, paid for her medications and left.
She cried all the way home.
Not because she wasn't pregnant, but because someone had seen her vulnerability after years of infertility and thought she was desperate enough to fall for something like that.
The experience affected her so much that she stayed away from fertility-related treatment for years afterwards.
Thankfully, the story did not end there.
After 20 years of waiting, she decided to try one final time. At the age of 45, she underwent IVF again and this time it worked.
Her child will be 10 years old on the 20th of June.
Infertility is hard enough without people taking advantage of couples who are desperate for answers.
If anyone tells you not to do scans elsewhere, discourages second opinions, or insists that everything about your pregnancy must remain within their system, please be careful.
Sometimes the biggest red flag is being told not to verify what you are being told.
Which of these is the hardest to find?
1. Nigeria winning the 2030 World Cup
2. Nigeria having a 30-year-old President
3. Finding a 30-year-old Professor in Nigeria.
4. Becoming a Nigerian consultant at 30.
If you could sit down with a younger man right now who is trying to figure out life, what is the best piece of advice you would give him to protect his mental health and succeed?
Man to man, share some wisdom. What worked for you?
One of the biggest misunderstanding about employee health is that people only need support when they become sick.
In reality, the best healthcare interventions happen long before a diagnosis is made.
A simple blood pressure check, having a medical conversation about stress or encouraging employees to take their leave, plays a huge role in improving their health.
My opinion is very simple, helping your employees understand the importance of sleep, exercise, and preventive care may seem like small things but over time, they can prevent serious health problems, reduce absenteeism, and improve overall wellbeing.
I've seen many medical conditions that could have been detected earlier or managed better if people had the right support , information and enabling environment.
To conclude , the healthiest organizations are usually not the ones that respond best to emergencies rather they are the ones that create environments where fewer emergencies happen in the first place.

One way to increase value is to limit access, so they said.
I've thought about this for so long and I think it's time to apply this approach. Let's see if it will work out ๐.
