But the song was actually written by Bismil Azimabadi, an Urdu poet from Patna just after the horrific firing at Jallianwala Bagh.
In fact, Rajput Ram Prasad Tomar took on the name 'Bismil' in celebration of the secular nature of our freedom struggle & popularized this song around the country!
After the Kakori attack Bismil was captured and hanged by the British around the same time as his close associate Ashfaqulla Khan. He was just 30.

I am 76 today. When I turn back it was poor childhood. Someway death kept itself away and I survived. Later i went to the seminary where I studied religions, English, philosophy. After knowing Jesus is a made up figure I left the seminary ans studied engineering & HR. Taught in college, became a manager, CEO, wrote 35 books, took inspiring sessions. Each day I do 75 minutes' exercise. Weight came down from 85kg 20 years back to 64 now. BP climbed down from high to below 80/120. Eat only twice-good veg, fish, fruit nuts, spices, drinks water & coffee. Enjoy teen like energy. Study how to prevent diseases, keep health span & impart it to all. I am grateful for having got a chance to pass this way. In the cosmic time scale we come & go like a bubble but let us enjoy each moment. We are a part of this universe to which we will return & our energy will remain there for ever.

To understand the depth and breadth of what Prime Minister Modi has achieved, we must remember what he inherited.

The Congress Party had a disastrous flirtation with Soviet style socialism (and the word "socialist" is still there in our Constitution, thanks to Indira Gandhi). With the Soviet collapse, India faced bankruptcy and the Congress switched to the Washington consensus, Davos-style globalism. To be fair to them, it looked reasonable in 1991, and people like me supported it, but far deeper thinkers like Gurumurthy saw that Davos globalism also as a dead-end. It met its end in the Global Financial Crisis 2008-9.

Modi's Swadeshi philosophy has achieved the balance of building up our capability while also earning the respect of the world. Like all great transformations, it takes time.

My prayers for his good health because so much work lies ahead 🙏
