This is Colonel Ismail Dawood, an active SAPS officer who has continued working high-profile cases despite facing severe criminal charges. He was even appointed to lead the high-profile Crime Intelligence National Anti-Kidnapping Task Team while concurrently standing trial for murder, kidnapping, and torture. 🤦🏾‍♀️ He is currently on the run‼️He saw that it was better to run than face the warrant of arrest. One wonders what or who is he truly running away from 🤔. Who is he afraid of that he decided to run than to face accountability which will require him to expose a lot of hidden things? To show just how protected this man was: 1. He stayed employed even tho other police officials with legal troubles were actively suspended from the kidnapping task team. Senior leadership actively chose to replace the suspended officials with Dawood. External whistleblowers and internal sources openly criticized this double standard, questioning how the public could trust Crime Intelligence when its active leadership faced serious criminal indictments. 2. SAPS didn't care bcoz they treated his ongoing legal battles as internal departmental matters and explicitly extended state protection to him. An internal police note revealed that the state attorney covered Dawood's legal defense fees and the police service paid for his travel and accommodation costs to attend his criminal trial hearings. Imagine😳. 3.. To add insult to injury to us the tax payers who are paying for all this, his 2006 case involving the alleged torture and kidnapping of suspects during a Benoni police store robbery investigation has dragged on for 20 years in the courts due to endless structural delays, stalling tactics, and systemic bottlenecks within the South African judicial pipeline. That has allowed him to climb the ranks to Colonel and retain his post without a definitive conviction. He isn't alone. He belongs to a highly controversial faction within the SAPS often referred to in court and civil society documents as the "Mabula Team" or "Mabula Unit." This elite but widely criticized group of senior officers has faced multiple indictments for severe human rights abuses, torture, and state corruption. The high-profile figures implicated directly alongside or in parallel to Dawood include: - Major-General Ntebo Jan Mabula who is the former North West Deputy Provincial Commissioner and head of the specialized investigative team. - Major-General Feroz Khan is a recently suspended Deputy Head of Crime Intelligence. - Major-General Ebrahim Kadwa is a high-ranking Gauteng Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks). - Brigadier Daniel Pharasa Ncube & Brigadier Cliford Matome Kgorane are Senior North West Provincial police heads (Commercial Crimes and Organized Crime, respectively). Dawood's lawyers have said he is not on the run. He will show up to court on Monday on his own. We all know it doesn't work that way. His house was raided because he was meant to be arrested today as there is an active warrant of arrest for him. So, how did he manage to go on the run? Who warned him in advance? Who leaked that information? Who still believes that crime pays enough to.protect an alledged habitual criminal like Dawood?
