Jared Young has been a terrific player for the Mets, with a glaring hole at 1st with Vientos in the dumps and Polanco on the shelf for the foreseeable future, Young has stepped up big.
52.5% HardHit | .398 xwOBA | 150 wRC+
Young needs to play everyday.
Christian Scott in his last 3 starts:
🔶 16.2 IP (19.2 over his first 5)
🔷 24.2 K%
🔶 2.44 FIP
🔷 111 Stuff+
Scott has been dominating as of late, control has been much better while also going deeper in game. Stuff is still so good.
I think it would be malpractice if Vientos is still on this team past the deadline. He had a great run in 2024 but since then he has had a massive fall off, is a negative net player and is not helping the team in anywhere. Move him, see if u can get an upside reliever.
Honestly the Mets season probably lies in the hands of what happens the rest of this week. 10 games under with 5 games left this week if they can grab 4 and get good momentum into the west coast trip next week it could turn some things.
Nolan McLean last 2 starts:
14.0 K-BB% | .310 BAA | 9.07 FIP
McLean had a terrific start to the year but his last 2 starts have been disaster. McLean has great stuff and I’m not too worried about him he will figure it out.
The Mets have holes, and injuries have made the holes show much more. 1st base with Polanco was always a ? and it busted. Bichette I think will turn it around but he’s been very underwhelming. This season is likely one that is done, but this team isn’t far from contending.
Tough start in Miami. Place has been a house of horrors for the Mets and it really can’t be that way this weekend. Hopefully they find a way to snag both or atleast 1 game and get back home and keep rolling.
Zach Thornton will make his MLB Debut tonight for the Mets after a terrific start in Syracuse. His numbers are really solid.
28.3 K% | 50.0% GB | 3.19 FIP
One of the better Mets pitching prospects gets an opportunity to prove himself tonight.
The Mets bullpen gets overly criticized which is just down right wrong as it’s been one of the better ‘pens in baseball.
(MLB ranks in parentheses)
3.47 FIP (7th) | 25.1 K% (7th) | 3.34 SIERA (5th)
The notion that this bullpen is “bad” is just wrong.
Austin Warren has seemingly come out of nowhere for this Mets bullpen and has been one of their better arms. He’s been mainly used in low-lev situations but I wouldn’t be shocked if we see his role increase.
29.5 K% | 28.4 Whiff% | 1 PRV | 0.84 ERA
Mark Vientos for about a month now has caught a solid stride offensively and has been pretty decent at 1st base. This was needed for the Mets with Polanco on the shelf.
.422 xwOBA | 16.1 Barrel% | 119 wRC+
Swaggy V is slowly coming back.
MJ Melendez has been a sneaky solid add for the Mets, playing both corners of the OF well and his bat has been red hot.
60.0 HardHit% | .443 wOBA | 187 wRC+
Obviously it would be near impossible for him to keep this up but hopefully he can continue.
Christian Scott will toe the rubber for the Mets today. His stuff has been extremely solid but locating it has been a problem. Hopefully he can find some control and dominate today:
31.0 K% | .136 BAA | 113 Stuff+
Locating today is priority #1.
Carson Benge after a rough start to the season, has been really solid, and is beginning to show why he was the #1 prospect in the Mets system.
Since April 20th:
52.9% HardHit% | .375 xwOBA | 140 wRC+
Pair that with his defense (3 OAA). Solid.
