We're so close to our £1000 target to start funding the tools and equipment we need for our new #tree nursery. Donations and shares gratefully received. Many thanks.

We're just back from an enjoyable mini-conference organised by @Leeds_LEAF. Talks included everything from changes in tree growth rates in the tropics, to our work at Hardknott! Practical work at Gair Wood the university's new woodland site the following day.
A few recent pics for the last post of 2024. Jess checking out a pine marten den box using our thermal scope, visits to two plant nurseries, a chat about tranferable skillsets & volunteering to a group in #Millom. Cheers everyone! @IsaacJHawk@PeteBarron2 @NMBCo @vincentwildlife

We're recruiting for an exciting new #PhD project in #mountain#woodland restoration! "The genetic diversity & adaptive potential of mountain birch in Scotland for high-altitude nature recovery" hosted by
@UK_CEH, @StirUni & @Forest_Research

“The UK has more potential for temperate rainforest restoration than anywhere else in the world… UK rainforests are resilient to low & medium amounts of future warming”
But climate action needed to save other temp rainforests
Ace new paper by Leeds Uni: https://t.co/MizMoQygVZ
Important new paper from @DomSpracklen about climate change impacts on temperate rainforests. Expanding #ScotlandsRainforest looks vital, as it should lose less climate space than other regions - and has more unforested land for restoration. @ASRainforest https://t.co/lA4NeeTscp
Our vol day this weekend was at the new plant nursery. We got all the juniper seedlings up off the ground for the winter & dug some new beds for sowing wildflowers for seed. A small number of tea-leaved willow also went as a future source for cuttings. @MontaneWoodland @UBoCarbon
Two different examples of tree protection here. First some recently planted #aspen emerging from biodegradable tree tubes. And hazel, now protected from deer browsing by a windblown oak. Spotted on vol days with @CumbriaUni & BAE groups. @EnvLeeds @UBoCarbon @FriendsofLakes
Not only are Northern Monk @NMBCo helping us as one of the causes they support, they also visited (all the way from Leeds!) to help out on site yesterday. We had a great day planting wildflowers and removing spruce from regenerating woodland.
Our Autumn newsletter is out next week. It's got news of a new partner project, someone pointing at bog myrtle, lots of tree tube wombling and the opportunity to win a Northern Monk hat! Sign up here: https://t.co/8hnNPUDauj

Moments like this remind us just how much we have lost from our #mountains, but also showcase the huge potential for #NatureRecovery at scale. To revive a healthy mosaic of trees & open vegetation together weaving a vibrant tapestry of life across high-altitude landscapes. 🤗 4/4
Join us & moth expert @RyanClarkNature to identify the moths of Hardknott. We'll use lures & light traps to attract & ID our moths. We'll also bring our thermal scope to view larger animals.
